Nashville Predators Fans Boo Canadian National Anthem Ahead Of Game Against The Ottawa Senators

Nashville Predators fans O Canada singer

Just returning the favor? While the United States and Canada generally have had a pretty strong relationship, and the people of the two countries seem to get along pretty well for the most part, a line was seemingly drawn in the sand over the weekend when President Donald Trump announced that he would be imposing 25% tariffs on goods imported from our neighbors to the north. The president claimed that he was imposing the tariffs as a way of pressuring Canada into doing more to secure the border between the two countries and stop the flow of fentanyl and illegal immigrants into the United States. Well Canadians didn't take too kindly to the action from Trump, with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau taking a break from dressing up in blackface to announce tariffs of his own on goods from the United States. Liquor stores in Canada even began pulling American spirits from their shelves, with the government of Canada encouraging its citizens to buy Canadian-made products. (Have fun with your Crown Royal I guess?) And at an NHL game between the Ottawa Senators and the Minnesota Wild, Canadian hockey fans made their feelings know on the impending trade war between the two countries, raining down boos as the Star Spangled Banner was performed before the matchup. https://twitter.com/clahanna/status/1885856248077152620 Well the trade war turned out to be short lived, with Trudeau agreeing yesterday to demands from the Trump administration to implement Canada's $1.3 billion border security plan that was passed in December, which will include stationing 10,000 additional troops at the border. And the outgoing Prime Minister also agreed to appoint a fentanyl czar and list drug cartels as terrorists while directing an additional $200 million towards a new intelligence directive aimed at combating organized crime and drug trafficking. In response to the agreement from Canada, both countries have agreed to pause their tariffs for 30 days as the new plan is implemented. It was a resolution that Trump praised in a lengthy post on Truth Social: "As President, it is my responsibility to ensure the safety of ALL Americans, and I am doing just that. I am very pleased with this initial outcome, and the Tariffs announced on Saturday will be paused for a 30 day period to see whether or not a final Economic deal with Canada can be structured. FAIRNESS FOR ALL!" https://twitter.com/TrumpDailyPosts/status/1886612284203786353 But that didn't stop Nashville Predators fans from returning the favor to Senators fans who booed our national anthem over the weekend. The Sens were in Music City last night for a game at Bridgestone Arena, and Predators fans could be heard booing as "O Canada" was performed during the pregame ceremonies. https://twitter.com/TSN_Sports/status/1886763929730257383 And during the "Star Spangled Banner," one fan could be heard yelling out "Go Trump!" that echoed throughout Bridgestone Arena. https://twitter.com/AlexDaugherty1/status/1886578428431773867 Of course the Senators ended up getting the last laugh, taking home a 5-2 win over the Predators, who have struggled for pretty much the entire season. But I guess we'll have to wait and see whether the boo birds will end now that the tariffs have been put on hold and America and Canada can be friends again.
