Bo Bichettye fastball off the face

For however seldom one Ottawa Valley transplant Liz McGuire posts on X/Twitter, she does not strike this writer as a clout chaser. Liz's tweets and medley of reposts have more to do with music than anything else. No sign that sports are a significant part of her life. I wonder at times what that's like... There are people on this planet who don't inhale sports for a living, or even pay much attention to them. Will they engage in the novelty of going to a game in person? In most cases, yes — and maybe they'll even have fun. Perhaps that piques their interest enough to become a full-blown fan. Saying all that to say, I don't care that Liz doesn't have anything to do with the Blue Jays on her X account until this going-viral post. I don't care if she wouldn't be caught dead watching baseball outside of a ballpark with friends who dragged her along. I don't care if she keeps her fandom off social media entirely and enjoys it in the comfort of her personal life, because let's face it, it's tough to be a Toronto Blue Jays supporter. They've won three playoff series since 1993, when they capped off back-to-back World Series titles. You know, the Joe Carter heyday. Haven't thought about him in years. I lived in the Toronto area for a while. Lord knows how I pulled the name Joe Carter from the depths of my white matter. That's a brain joke, to be clear. Quick warning here: If you're squeamish, this might be the time to check out. Protective, space-padding GIF incoming: gif puke OK but Liz McGuire. Not to be confused with the TV character, lest I go on another nostalgic rant about a subject I know vague, broad strokes about. Liz is making a simple request. She took a Bo Bichette foul ball to the freaking face at a swifter velocity than the fiercest Paul Skenes heater. World of pain. Massive bump on the noggin to prove it. I thought some of my Canadian pals growing up in early grade school were "built different" because they slugged it out at hockey practice in the morning before school. Evidently that applies to the ladies, too. Whereas I might be on all fours puking my guts out upon first glimpsing my mug through any reflective surface or flipped smartphone cam, Liz stayed at the damn park for the rest of the game after this happened to her: https://twitter.com/lizzzzzzzzzzy/status/1792317889875243366?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1792386294552600971%7Ctwgr%5E464292d1a9a9f777ed99972325e35be2903a5d77%7Ctwcon%5Es3_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.whiskeyriff.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D594542action%3Dedit First of all, Bo Bichette being in his sixth MLB season makes me feel very old, considering I used to play with his dad Dante on baseball PC games back in the day. Secondly, Liz McGuire has stolen my heart due to her valor and grit. Thirdly, I was playing backyard football in middle school many moons ago and led my buddy right into a lamp post. He still caught the touchdown (won the battle), but his head immediately had a golf ball-sized lump on it (Pyrrhic victory, turns out). The impact was loud. Couldn't tell you how Liz was still even on her feet, able to enjoy the game, and able to post on social media about her personal saga afterwards. All we know for sure is that she's a f*****g champ. The big issue right now is that the Blue Jays have not responded as of 11:30 p.m. ET on Sunday night. They were tagged in Liz's post. They have tweeted multiple times since then, and retweeted one of their affiliate accounts. No replies to Liz to my knowledge, unless it was a DM that she hasn't shared yet. Disappointing from the Jays to say the least. Liz's X profile quotes Bruce Springsteen with the following words, "Nobody wins unless everybody wins." I trust that everybody with a soul or basic human emotions would consider it a massive win if Liz McGuire gets that Bo Bichette baseball from the Blue Jays. Make it happen Toronto, MLB, Jays organization, et al. She more than deserves it. If the Jays continue to ignore Liz on X, it should be taken as a passive-aggressive gesture of hostility. An injustice to sports fandom we must band together and rally against. FOR LIZ! The dude Also read: https://twitter.com/JoJoFromJerz/status/1792386294552600971
