![California Residents Watch Palisades Fire Surround Their Home In Terrifying Video]()
![Palisades Fire]()
Absolutely heartbreaking news out of southern California today.
Wildfires are raging across parts of Los Angeles right now, as firefighters continue to battle fires in the foothills of Pacific Palisades, one of the most beautiful and scenic neighborhoods in the entire United States. Another brush fire erupted in Eaton Canyon and another in the Sylmar area. As of right now, the fires have burned nearly 6,000 acres with 0% containment, forcing 80,000 residents to flee the area. Tens of thousands of homes are in danger of burning down, as well and businesses and restaurants, in notable California locations like Malibu.
Residents in affected areas are urged to follow evacuation orders promptly and stay updated through official channels for the latest information on the fire's progression and safety measures.
Dry conditions and strong Santa Ana winds with gusts up to 100 mph are intensifying the fires and complicating containment efforts. As of right now, Southern California Edison has cut power to approximately 120,000 customers, with an additional 440,000 at risk, to prevent further fire ignitions. Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency and secured federal assistance to support firefighting efforts.
It's truly an apocalyptic scene and my heart breaks for the people who lives there. I've been to that part of Southern California half a dozen times, including Santa Monica, Malibu, Topanga State Park, The Getty Museum... it's a great place to visit for a few days.
Here's a look at Los Angeles from the window of a plane.

And if that doesn't paint the picture, here's one from the ground that will absolutely terrify you.
This frightening video has been going insanely viral, and it's not hard to see why. The video comes from the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, where some residents and a dog were still inside their home as it was about to be engulfed by flames. They pan the camera around to show you what's going on outside and it's absolutely horrifying, like a scene from a movie. I can't even imagine.
“You’re going to be OK. You’re going to be OK, all right?”
The man tells his frightened dog.

It's unclear where the video came from but multiple sources have reported that the people and their dog escaped safely. At one point in the video you can see water raining down on the flames (not doing much to stop them) so it's safe to say that firefighters were on the scene, but man... just get out of there.
Growing up in the Midwest, I've just never experienced anything like this. Sure, I've been in the basement for a few storm warnings, seen freezing temps and buckets of snow, but nothing that can bring the type of immediate devastation and destruction like wildfires, earthquakes, or hurricanes. We get tornadoes from time to time up here in Wisconsin, but it's nothing like this. I'll say it again... I just can't even imagine.
Prayers up for everybody in the area right now.
