![Netflix’s Christmas Present To Everyone Was An Electric Teaser Trailer For ‘Happy Gilmore 2’]()
![Netflix]()
Yesterday was a big day for Netflix.
Was it due to it being Christmas? Sort of. But the more important thing than Christmas spirit - even though the streaming service wouldn't tell you this - was the fact that the NFL broadcasted two football games on Netflix for their first ever Christmas Day games.
The Kansas City Chiefs played the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Houston Texans faced off against the Baltimore Ravens. Both matchups ended up being ugly blowouts, though that wasn't an issue. Netflix and the NFL both won big collaborating for the National Football League's first ever broadcast on the streaming service - and the fact it was on Christmas made it that much bigger of a deal.
While the games were airing on Netflix (I honestly didn't have a lot of free time on Christmas Day to watch the two games, I don't know about you), the streaming giant also dropped a trailer for a highly anticipated sequel that's set for a 2025 release. We've heard a lot of information about the new Adam Sandler project, and we've even seen a few set pictures and videos, but this was the first time that we got to see actual footage from the upcoming second act of everyone's favorite hockey-player-turned-golfer.
Back in April, Adam Sandler revealed that a sequel to the 1990’s classic
Happy Gilmore was in the works. Though some were concerned that a sequel would potentially take away from the first film, others have been over the moon thinking about the possibility of seeing everyone’s favorite amateur-professional golfer back on the big screen.
And there have already been plenty of cameos for the film, including
Travis Kelce,
John Daly, Eminem, Jack Nicklaus, and sports radio host Dan Patrick – who has been known to drop in for small roles on Adam Sandler projects. It has also been rumored that Tiger Woods will be featured in the film, but that has yet to be confirmed. Though the Sandman did refer to “all these great golfers” coming by to help out with the movie, so that certainly leaves the door open.
The
Happy Gilmore actor also previously added that the losses of Bob Barker (who played himself), Carl Weathers (who played Chubbs), and Joe Flaherty (who played the guy that yelled “jackass”) are irreplaceable heading into the sequel, and that all of those roles would be honored in some way. It’s clear that Sandler and everyone involved are working hard to make a second installment that not only adds to the Gilmore-McGavin universe, but also honors the 90’s classic.
Adam Sandler and Netflix gave fans a first look of the new comedy with a short teaser trailer released on Christmas Day. It was actually a really smart way of rolling it out... as Sandler took to his social media to wish everyone a "Happy Chanuhak, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy Gilmore to all!" As you'll see in the clip below, Travis Kelce appears, as does Christopher McDonald's legendary character Shooter McGavin.
It appears that Happy Gilmore and his arch nemesis are having somewhat of a standoff by the gravesite of the late, great golfer Chubbs Peterson:
