Michigan fans really loving Ryan Day. It's not often a college football coach finds themselves on the hot seat after a 10-2 season and an appearance in the College Football playoffs. But when one of those losses was to archrival Michigan, who you haven't beaten since 2019, it's no surprise that Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is facing calls for his job from some Buckeyes fans. Day is 66-10 since taking over for Urban Meyer after the 2018 season. That's a record that pretty much every college football program would be happy with from their coach. The Buckeyes have also made the College Football Playoffs three times under Day. But in those playoff games, Ohio State has only one win, a victory over Clemson in 2021 before ultimately losing to the Georgia Bulldogs in the national championship game. Even more importantly though, Day is 1-4 against Michigan, including a loss this year to the unranked Wolverines in a game that Ohio State was heavily favored to win. So yeah, there are quite a few Ohio State fans who are ready to move away from Ryan Day and bring in a coach who can actually beat Michigan and win playoff games. But Michigan fans are perfectly happy with Ryan Day on the Ohio State sidelines. I mean, why wouldn't they be? They have their longest winning streak against the Buckeyes since 1988-1991, and even in a year when Ohio State was ranked #6 and Michigan went 7-5, Ohio State still couldn't manage enough offense to win in one of college football's biggest rivalry games. So while Ohio State fans are arguing over whether to keep Ryan Day, one Michigan fan is encouraging the school to give their coach a contract extension. Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is a Michigan grad, and an outspoken fan and supporter of his alma mater. While even he wasn't necessarily expecting the Wolverines to extend their winning streak this year, he had plenty to say to Ohio State fans after the game: https://twitter.com/stoolpresidente/status/1862959943390732421 And with Ohio State taking on Tennessee today in the college football playoffs, Portnoy decided to travel to Columbus for the game - and he brought along a message for the Ohio State athletic department: Extend Ryan Day's contract. Portnoy not only had a custom shirt made with "Extend Ryan Day" (in Michigan colors), he also hired a banner plane to fly over the stadium to drive the message home: https://twitter.com/stoolpresidente/status/1870564502044868836 In case anybody thought it was from a Ryan Day supporter in his own fanbase, Portnoy added a message to the sign that left no doubt: "Go Blue." I've gotta admit, as somebody who can't stand Ohio State, that's some absolutely A+ trolling. I don't really have a dog in the fight, but Ohio State fans have to be the most delusional fanbase in the country. For a team that constantly chokes in big games, you'd think they were the second coming of Nick Saban's Alabama from the way they talk shit. Fortunately, they may have met their match with Dave Portnoy, who isn't about to let them know that their coach just lost to Michigan for the fourth time in a row.
