![Certified Genius Puts Broken TV In Shipping Box & Lets Oblivious Porch Pirate Haul It Away]()
![Porch pirate]()
How the tables have turned.
There's nothing worse than a porch pirate. The epidemic of stealing packages feet from people's front doors started right around the time everyone in the world started getting almost everything delivered to their home. Shoutout to Amazon for changing the game - and accidentally kickstarting a new version of theft.
Some criminals really take porch pirating seriously. Earlier this year, security cameras captured footage that went viral showing
someone disguised as a... garbage bag sneaking (?) up to a home and swiping away a box. If only some of these people could put as much thought and effort into being a productive member of society.
It's hard to stop porch pirating, and it's certainly a frustrating part of modern life, but one person in Georgia has seemingly figured out a way to deter the close-to-home thievery.
These sharp-witted homeowners had just bought a new television, and came up with an idea. No one likes hauling off old furniture and electronics, right? It can be a tedious activity, and at the end of the day, whatever you are getting rid of is now an unwanted item. Why waste time on something you no longer want?
I imagine these homeowners went through those thoughts in their own head and asked the question, "What if I didn't have to haul this off? And someone would actually do it for me for free?" So they packed up their old television (that they say was damaged) in the new TV box, wrapped it up nice and tight, and then placed it onto their front porch.
Then they waited.
Sure enough, some porch pirates came driving around the neighborhood and spotted the large cardboard box sitting out front. If they would have stopped to think, "This might be too good to be true," they might have drove on in search of another box. Instead, they stopped, and a New-York-Yankee-jacket-wearing criminal ran up to the porch, picked up the TV, and retreated back to the getaway car.
At some point, the criminals likely found out they were duped. As for the homeowner, it was a win-win. They got rid of their old TV - for free - and managed to trick some porch pirates in the process:
"Thank you for taking my old and damaged TV. My strategy of packing well worked."

I love everything about that. And so did the internet.
Everyone in the comment section was quick to show support for the homeowner and enjoyed laughing at the porch pirates who were fooled by the ol' TV switcheroo:
"If this is true, this is absolutely hilarious."
"Pure genius... I'm going to fill an Amazon box with shitty diapers right now and leave it at my front door."
"This is thinking outside of the box."
"Imagine getting home to a free TV that doesn't work."
"The grey duct tape strips on the top should’ve let him know everything he needed to know, but hey, we’re dealing with a criminal here!"
"Thank you for idea. I also want to get rid of my old TV."
