People Are Shocked To Learn Carolina Panthers Wide Receiver Xavier Legette Eats Raccoon: “It’s Got Its Own Taste”

Xavier Legette is a treasure. The Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver has made national headlines this season, mostly for his unique personality and super thick southern accent, and unfortunately, a few more negative ones for his on-field play after dropping several game-changing balls during critical points in the respective games. I know, he's a rookie, but that part... it hurts. The former South Carolina standout still has some growing to do to be an elite NFL WR, but I'm hopeful he can turn it around, because without jinxing us or anything close, it feels like the team is finally trending in the right direction with second-year quarterback Bryce Young playing really well as of late. Legette appeared on the St. Brown Podcast this week to talk about his career thus far, and with the Panthers recently securing a big win in Germany as part of the league's international games series, the hosts had to ask what the South Carolina country boy thought about it. As you can imagine, he didn't love it: "Man, I’m going to tell you this. I ain’t never trying to go back...we went to a five-star steakhouse, man, and these folks didn’t even know what lemonade was." I don't know about you, but as someone who loves Southern food as much as he does, that's a problem, and even if they had it, I'm sure it wouldn't be sweet enough anyways. But the part that's gone viral is when XL was asked if he had a "hot take" about food, and he shocked the hosts when he told them he loves raccoon: "I eat raccoon. Like a raccoon you see in the trash can... I hunt it. I kill it. I skin ‘em. Cook ‘em. Eat ‘em. All that." The best part was listening to him describe the taste of it: "It’s got its own taste. Everybody tries to say stuff tastes like chicken. But raccoon got its own taste." Really, it's best if you just watch the clip for yourself: Of course, plenty of NFL fans left comments across the social platforms, stunned to hear Xavier eats this on a regular basis, but he's a country boy, and honestly, it's really not that surprising... "Bro is SOUTHERN." "It’s like listening to a drunk Matthew McConaughey." "He’s strictly a southerner. I’ll never forget came home from school thought I was eating smothered chicken and was told it was squirrel after I ate it." "Raccoon must taste like hot Cheetos or whatever they are outta the trash, right!? What if the raccoon eats bad trash?" "What the f*** did he say? Lol." "I lived in the South for a few years and this junk is not out of the ordinary. Folks really be that country no matter." "'buh da coon goddi own tase'💀😭😭💀💀" "Yeah imma keep my a** in the Midwest." "HES COUNTRY COUNTRY 😂😂😂." "Dat boy country as hell lmao." "I love the way he talks. He put the C in country 😂." "His southern accent so thick 😂." "Legette has to be one of the most unique guys in the league." "This is wild." Of course, there were few digs about his ability to catch raccoon compared to his (occasional) inability to catch game-winning balls: "Dude catches raccoons, but he ought to get on a juggs machine." "The only highlight I’ve ever seen of this guy is a dropped touchdown but after this he’s my all time favorite player in the history of sports." "Dude can catch squirrels and rabbits but not a wide open game winning TD against the Eagles." I love Xaiver, but I mean, that's fair. You can watch the full episode below, and if you're into football at all, it's a great one and Xaiver is a riot.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM-QWVxa_MA
