President Joe Biden Falls Asleep During Meeting With African Leaders: “Completely Checked Out At This Point”

Joe Biden

Jet lag getting to ya, Joe? At this point, President Joe Biden only has 47 days left in his term so he's basically like a senior in their last month of school before graduation. You know he's checked out by now and already dreaming of spending all his time on the beach and eating ice cream. But unfortunately for Biden, the President of the United States can't exactly quit doing his job just because he's leaving office in a couple months. There's still work to be done running the country, so as much as he may hate it, Joe's going to have to keep working for the next 47 days. Well, kind of... Biden is in Africa this week for a series of visits focusing largely on the Lobito Corridor railway redevelopment, to which he has pledged $1 billion to help the countries of Zambia, Congo and Angola build railways between mineral mines that are critical for the batteries used in electric vehicles and other so-called "clean energy" technologies. On an unrelated note, there are still people living in tents in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene. But anyway, today the president attended the Lobito Corridor Trans-Africa Summit along with the presidents of several African nations. And while I'm sure it was a thrilling meeting to be a part of, just nonstop excitement talking about building railroads between mineral mines, apparently the jet lag - or maybe his age - hit Biden a little too hard. POTUS was seen dozing off as the president of Tanzania addressed the group, closing his eyes with his hands in his face in his hands for nearly two minutes, before appearing to startle himself awake in time for the next speaker. https://twitter.com/jacobkschneider/status/1864403426303529321 And what makes it even funnier is when you realize that Biden is just sitting around a table supposedly having a conversation with these guys. It's not like he's in a big crowd or able to hide. He's one of just a handful of people at the table. https://twitter.com/WilliamHBart/status/1864409069248778300 Honestly, he's reached a level of not giving a damn that I aspire to reach myself someday. It's not the first time jet lag has seemed to get the best of the 82-year old. After his disastrous performance in the debate against Donald Trump, Biden's team blamed the president being exhausted from an overseas trip (which he returned from a week before the debate). And when he arrived in Angola earlier this week, he mistakenly referred to the country as a "vibrant city" and tried to correct himself: https://twitter.com/RNCResearch/status/1863992656461808037 Isn't this the man they were telling us 6 months ago was up for another 4 years as president? Of course the media has also accused Donald Trump of falling asleep on camera. A viral clip claimed to show the former/future president napping during the Republican National Convention earlier this year. https://twitter.com/iamgabesanchez/status/1813051234611568714 But as it turns out, the full video proved that Trump actually had his eyes closed during a prayer. https://twitter.com/DailyLoud/status/1813187307991650773 And listen, I can't blame Biden for falling asleep during the meeting. Not only is the guy 82 years old, but he knows that he only has the job for another month and he just flew halfway across the world. I used to fall asleep after walking 5 minutes to my 8 AM class in college. I get it. But Twitter wasn't about to let him off easy, even at his age: Just 47 more days, Joe. You can do it.
