It's Thanksgiving Week!
That means families are coming together, food is being prepped, football is about to be watched, and former athletes are going to try and relive their glory days in their respective annual "Turkey Bowl" games. Then you've also got the type of people that run a "Turkey Trot," and as I wrote about last year,
those people can go to hell.
Turkey Day also
unfortunately means the PETA dorks are going to bombard social media trying to convince people to not eat turkey.
As you are scrolling your social media apps this week trying to buy a few minutes away from your family, you'll probably come across plenty of posts like these that the People For Ethical Treatment of Animals organization puts out this time of the year:

And that's not even the weird one that this story is focusing on.
PETA actually just piggybacked off of a social media craze that had people believing
Butterball turkeys were being recalled because workers were... doing the nasty with them. Those claims THANKFULLY turned out to be untrue, and Butterball even released a statement to try and calm everything - and everyone - down:
“We are aware of a video from nearly 20 years ago, which is being re-shared across social media. This video is not current and was taken prior to Butterball becoming a private company and prior to our engagement and certification through American Humane. Animal care and well-being is central to who we are as a company, and we are committed to the ethical and responsible care of our flocks.
Eleven years ago, Butterball was the first, and remains the only, turkey company to be American Humane certified. That means we have yearly audits conducted by a third party to ensure compliance with our 200+ science-based standards of best practice for care of turkeys, well exceeding industry best practices. We are proud of this designation that no other turkey company can claim and have a zero-tolerance policy for animal mistreatment.”
While we're on the topic of animal mistreatment, how about we pivot and talk about advertising mistreatment?
PETA put out this anti-turkey ad spot featuring a couple stuffing a turkey while saying, "Let's open up those legs" and "Stuff it... all the way!" The cartoon also featured disgusted kids watching from just outside the threshold of the kitchen, and as you are probably already gathering, it all came off really weird:

That would be a good thing to bring up at the Thanksgiving table. If you need a good conversation starter, just shout out the question, "So did you all see the weird, sexual ad PETA put out to try and get us to stop eating turkey?" See what your uncle or grandpa has to say about that.
