Sydney Thomas

Sydney Thomas is making the most of her moment. Millions of people tuned into Netflix Saturday night (or at the very least least tried to) to see the spectacle of a YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul take on a 58-year-old Mike Tyson in the boxing ring. The hype before the fight was through the roof, as many were hoping "Iron Mike" could turn back the clock and show the world why he used to be considered the baddest man alive. Instead, Mike Tyson showed both his age and his ass: https://twitter.com/netflix/status/1857634466304504156 Many boxing fans were not happy with how the fight turned out, and even suggested that many of the undercards were more competitive than the main event. With Netflix struggling to handle the live stream as well - making many view the match like they were using dial up internet - it was hard to find a silver lining to the whole night. Or was it? One could make a very reasonable argument that ring girl Sydney Thomas stole the show during fight night. She coincidentally seemed to always be on camera throughout the night, and something makes me think that the camera operators were given a "tip" to keep things interesting - especially as the Tyson-Paul fight turned out to be not so interesting. So the University of Alabama grad found herself in the spotlight a lot through the night, which consequently translated to Sydney Thomas popping up all over social media. She quickly became a trending topic, and her instant stardom translated to a boost in over 300,000 Instagram followers since she first made an appearance during the fight. https://twitter.com/Dexerto/status/1858507774994366912 The internet evidently loves a talented girl named Sydney. And shoutout to her, because she's kept the train rolling since her big break as a Netflix boxing ring girl. Thomas immediately capitalized on the night by releasing a TikTok the next morning of her "waking up" and reacting to the fact that she had taken over social media: "I'm happy you guys enjoyed the broadcast!"

Crazy how one moment can turn someone into an instantaneous star in 2024 (looking at you Hawk Tuah girl). Though based on the reaction I've seen online, it doesn't seem like people (men) would mind if Sydney Thomas suddenly started popping up more in the media world. And she's handled all of the attention with a lot of grace, even posting on Instagram that she was honored to be a part of the historic fight: "Getting the opportunity to step into the ring with Mike Tyson and Jake Paul for such a historic fight is something I never imagined I’d be able to say. Words can’t describe this moment or how grateful I am to be part of such an amazing team at Most Valuable Promotions. History was made, and I’m truly honored to have been a part of it." https://www.instagram.com/p/DCcjXyvxt-0/?img_index=1
