Stadium Cops At Florida-Georgia Game Beat The Crap Out Of Two Unruly Fans

Florida Georgia cops fight

The biggest hits in one of SEC game today may have been in the stands and not on the field. Look, we all know football hits a little different in the Southeastern Conference. The college game is even bigger than the NFL in a lot of those states. Bigger stadiums, booze, and college kids make the proceedings a little dicey. I mean, we had Texas fans chucking all kinds of debris onto the field to protest (successfully I might add) a penalty call against them. All that said, this incident appeared to be a quarrel amongst grown men - and the cops at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville weren't having it. https://twitter.com/BussinWTB/status/1852851662601454003 I mean, DAMN. We start with the one cop who has this guy pinned with his legs, and he's just deploying an endless barrage of ground and pound damage. Meanwhile, we cut to this large man who is winding up like his life depends on it and beating the other man's face into oblivion. Those are some vicious downward strikes. It's not clear what started the altercation, but many in the replies seem to suspect that the display of force from the officer taking down the Florida fan had to do with the guy reaching around and grabbing his belt - which is, obviously, where he keeps his gun. https://twitter.com/BearLovesKer/status/1852850083257049458 Any dust-up between law enforcement officers and assailants of any kind isn't liable to be the most graceful combat display. Resolving issues with your fists should always be the last course of action, but sometimes it is necessary. After all, we see stupid fans getting into brawls at sporting events all the time. Such scenarios often bring out the worst in humanity. Police field work has to be one of the hardest general job descriptions on the planet. The shorter a video in situations like these, the harder it is to determine who is in the wrong. And situations like this are always so chaotic that getting things under control can be difficult with bodies flying everywhere. You never know who's on who's side. We don't know if any of the men in the video were hurt, or whether anybody ended up getting arrested, but it appears that at least one of the fans ended up getting tased in the melee: https://twitter.com/BarstoolTate/status/1852850269052092871 The vast majority of the time, an enforcer of the law is going to be more adept at a fist fight than a probably-drunk fan who has no police, military, or martial arts background of any kind. And without a full video of the situation, it's hard to tell whether the officers were justified in throwing hands like they did. But suffice it to say, I'm sure their supervisors will be taking a look at whether their use of force was justified or whether they went overboard in breaking this one up.
