“Why Does This Program Keep Taking Ls?” – Oklahoma State Fans Are NOT Happy With Throwback Oklahoma A&M Uniforms

OSU uniforms

Maybe I don't want to be a cowboy... Oklahoma State University has had a less-than-stellar football season, and as an alum of the school, each week brings us another painful dose of heartbreak as we endure pitiful play on the field. With an overall record of 3-5 and our conference record at 0-5, being a Cowboys fan is tough this year. But when you think things couldn't get worse, Cowboy Football unveils their throwback uniforms, transporting fans back to the days when Oklahoma State University was called Oklahoma A&M. The land-grant university has over a century of history. These historic uniforms are leaving the vault and will appear on the field for this weekend's homecoming game against Arizona State. Taking it way back, players' uniforms represent what students wore on the field between 1909 and 1920. Players will be sporting a signature black and orange uniform, but instead of the helmets saying "OSU" on the side, they will feature the A&M symbol. They will also feature black and orange striped undergarments that players wore in the early 1900s. The helmets look tough, and the university shared the significance of the logo on the side of each player's head. "The interlocking 'OA' served as the official letter and emblem of the O.A. Association from 1909-13, when it dropped the 'A.' The association was organized by student-athletes of Oklahoma A&M College and still exists today as the 'O-Club,' rewarding the 'O' letter to OSU's varsity student-athletes. This weekend is believed to be the first time the 'OA' emblem has been used since the dawn of World War I."  https://www.instagram.com/p/DBwl7MJPHmC/?img_index=1 While fans love the helmet's look, the striped undergarments featured in the hype videos and photos are a tougher sell to the fans. The stripes also carry a meaning of significance. "Various versions of horizontal stripes on sleeves and socks can be found in OAMC football photos from 1901 through 1921 before the team switched to a look with vertical stripes in 1922. The stripes are a nod to OAMC's first team name, "Tigers," which was the name of institution's athletic teams before it fell out of use in the early 1920s to be replaced with 'Aggies' and later 'Cowboys.'" https://www.instagram.com/p/DBweymUPGU4/?img_index=1 I'm not sure if kids at the game this weekend will be sure if they are watching football or a bunch of Tony the Tigers running around the field... Fans agreed in the comments section that the helmets were a great thing to bring out of the archive, but with the Cowboys' current record, the uniforms could have been a pass. Haven't we been through enough suffering this season? At this rate, no one will give money to our NIL fund with giant black and orange-stripped men running around the field. I can't wait to see how this will look on camera this Saturday. Check out some of our favorite comments left on the post. "Oklahoma state penitentiary??" "Looks like we went to jail." "We deserve this." "This would be halfway okay if we weren’t 0-5 in the big 12." "What the hell are those sleeves." "No, my eyes hurt!" "Would be cooler if we could win a Big 12 game." "Why don’t we worry less abt uniforms and more about actually winning a game again." "Things so bad we don’t even want to be the cowboys anymore? We are going back to tigers…" "Oklahoma state loves being picked on." "Why does this program keep taking Ls." "Because this will turn our season around..."
