![“Can I Come Dressed As The Devil?” – Throwback To Bill Belichick Accepting Randy Moss’ Halloween Party Invite & Swagging Out As A Pirate]()
![Bill Belichick]()
Back in the day before Bill Belichick was seriously
dating 24-year-old Jordon Hudson, and appearing all over TV screens and YouTube feeds for myriad media gigs, he actually took a holiday and cut loose for Halloween in 2009.
The gridiron genius known for an unimaginative wardrobe consisting of endless hoodies — and word on the street is,
not enough socks — proved the skeptical outside world wrong about his zero-fun-sir demeanor.
Footage from inside Belichick's office showed Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss extending Belichick the invite. "The Hoodie" was surprisingly glowing about Halloween itself and was enthusiastic about attending the rollerskating party.
"Can I come dressed as The Devil? [...] It's a great holiday. A great holiday. Candy and costumes — how can you beat that?"

Pretty sure The Shield's X/Twitter is being a bunch of hardos about playing that embedded video, but you can catch most of it in the 2020 version shared by The Checkdown.
Back to the exchange and subsequent rollerskating Halloween party itself: Who knew Belichick had this side to him!? Sure, players have talked about his sense of humor before, but the jovial way Belichick was beaming when Randy gave him the invitation was quite stunning to witness. Bear in mind this is the same man who carefully crafted his image in the media to be the biggest curmudgeon ever when dealing with local beat reporters.
Belichick's longtime ex-girlfriend Linda Holliday — recently spotted in a
Kill Bill costume! — accompanied him to the Moss/Patriots Halloween shindig. Let me tell you, Billy Boy wore the hell out of that pirate costume. You could argue Belichick was a fashion revolutionary, because I'm convinced his gigantic pirate hat inspired
Noggin Boss and other companies to fire up those ridiculous oversized designs.

Or the pirate hat just had to be so large to accommodate Belichick's boundlessly massive football brain. Difficult to determine.
Additionally, Belichick's crude application of patchwork facial hair really puts his costume over the top. That's called attention to the finer details, something he's famous for when it comes to football. That's how you win six Super Bowls in New England. Helps to have Tom Brady of course, but that's a whole other tangent.
You have to appreciate, too, how naturally Belichick wields that pirate sword. Holliday even jokingly acts like he's holding her captive with it in a fun little moment.
Is there any way we can get Bill a pirate commercial opportunity of some kind before he gets back into coaching next year? Is that too much to ask? I have a vision: Since rumors are circulating about a
long-awaited Dodgeball sequel, you could do a one-shot epic ad starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and most importantly, Alan Tudyk's Steve the Pirate character. You conjure up some sort of conflict between Steve the Pirate and Belichick doing a terrible impression of Steve the Pirate, or whatever his original pirate character creation is. I think it'd kill. I think it'd generate a ton of buzz for
Dodgeball 2. And hey, it's another massive win for the NFL as well. Come on, Goodell. Make it happen!
Another possible angle: Do a reality show where Belichick goes to pirate camp. Apparently this is a real thing that I found while trying to unearth a decent-quality clip of Tudyk from the OG
Dodgeball.

Good thing Belichick didn't go with his first instinct of dressing as The Devil. We wouldn't have this whole treasure trove of pirate lore to mine otherwise!
