Joe Rogan Says He “Considered Himself A Left Wing Person” Until “The Tides Of Culture Shifted In A Bizarre Way”

Joe Rogan

Neither a Republican or a Democrat. There's been a lot of talk about Joe Rogan's politics lately, especially after former President Donald Trump appeared on his podcast last week. The episode has racked up 41 million views on YouTube alone, and naturally made people wonder whether Rogan would have Vice President Kamala Harris on leading up to the election as well. Rogan has maintained that he would welcome the opportunity to sit down with the Democrat nominee, but revealed on Twitter earlier this week that the only way her campaign would agree on an appearance would be if he flew to her for the interview instead of doing it in his Austin studio, and limited their conversation to an hour. If you've listened to the Joe Rogan Experience, you know that his podcasts can easily run anywhere from 3 to 4 hours, and that's part of what makes his show so popular: It's an unedited, unfiltered conversation with people that we usually only get to hear from in soundbites. Well naturally when Rogan refused to meet the demands of the Harris campaign in order to have her on the podcast (despite the fact that he offered her the same conditions that he offered the GOP nominee), social media went wild, accusing Rogan of being a "diva" and claiming that he was refusing to have her on because he was right-wing and wanted to help Trump. But according to Rogan, he doesn't consider himself right OR left wing. Rogan discussed his political affiliation yesterday during an episode with fellow comedians and podcast hosts Triggernometry, and said that he feels "politically homeless" in our current climate, despite supporting Bernie Sanders back in 2020: "Just because of my appearance, there's always been this assumption that I'm some right-wing MAGA guy. I was a Bernie supporter. I'm a politically homeless person, for sure." But Rogan admits that as culture has shifted, he's found himself moving away from some of the things that the left now believes: "The tides of culture shifted in a very bizarre way. And it just made me over time much more aware of what this stuff is really all about. Because what this stuff is really all about is just these natural human behavior patterns and these tribal instincts that we have, and it overpowers all discussions. It overpowers what's good for the collective group. It overpowers everything... If you look at what's going on with the liberals right now, progressives, they want the war in Ukraine to be funded, they want to censor speech online, and they want to give the World Health Organization - which is deeply influenced by big pharma, including the FDA. Deeply influenced. The revolving door between the FDA and pharmaceutical drug companies is legendary. And they want to give them control over what we take and what we don't take, and that's crazy. And that doesn't make sense because that's not what the liberals were when I was a kid. My parents were hippies. We lived in San Francisco during the Vietnam war. My parents were like straight up hippies, that's how I was raised. So for me it was always like, the liberals were the ones who wanted education and open-mindedness..." And it seems that he believes social media has had a large effect on the shift in mentality we've seen from the two sides over the past few years: "When they had the power over social media and these collective groups of people that all had that same ideology, and then that tribal mentality kicks in and you lose the perspective that you should have as an educated person that recognizes that everyone has to be able to talk, and we have to figure out who's right. And you might be wrong." Sounds like Rogan isn't really happy with either side - and though he hasn't revealed who he's voting for, he feels that neither side really represents what he believes. Which is why it may have been a good idea for Kamala's team to have her on the podcast and let her explain her ideas like Trump did. But I guess at this point in the election, that ship has probably sailed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aT2grMe1I4
