Comedian Andrew Schulz Says New York Venue Cancelled His Shows After He Had Donald Trump On His Podcast

Donald Trump Andrew Schulz

Quite literally cancel culture. Of course that term's thrown around a lot these days, but it seems like with social media and our hyper-politicized society, there's always a mob just waiting to try to ruin anybody who does something they don't agree with. Like interviewing a candidate for President of the United States, apparently. Earlier this week, comedian Andrew Schulz had former President Donald Trump, who also happens to be the 2024 GOP presidential nominee, on his Flagrant podcast. Several clips from the interview went viral, including one where Schulz jokingly questioned whether Trump really wanted to overturn Roe v. Wade now that his son Barron is 18-years old and in college in NYC: https://twitter.com/AdamFostermusic/status/1844073509145935949 And I'll be honest, I haven't watched the entire podcast. But I assume there wasn't anything horribly offensive in there, because if there was the media would be beating us over the head with it nonstop. But apparently one venue decided to cancel on Schulz after having the president on his show. During this week's episode of the podcast, Schulz revealed that 3 hours after the podcast was posted he got an email from the Brooklyn Academy of Music informing him that they were canceling his planned stand-up shows, which were set to be a taping for his next special. "We've had these venues locked in for months now...It's not like, 'We might do it here.' It's booked, it's ready to go. We're going on sale this week... And we get an email three and a half hours out. 'After discussing with our board members, we don't think that it would be...'" Schulz says he can't be positive that it's a result of the Trump interview, but BAM didn't seem to have a problem hosting his show before the podcast - and he pointed out that the venue went out of their way to make it clear that they would still like to book Live Nation events in the future, just not Schulz. He also revealed the email his team received from the venue: "First of all, I want to thank you for thinking of BAM for Andrew Schulz's upcoming comedy show. We are always excited when promoters consider our space for their events. After some internal discussion with leadership, it was decided that BAM is not the right fit for this show at this time. That said, we really do appreciate you reaching out, and we'd love to work with you on future events that might be a better match for BAM. Our door is always open for a chat about other shows you think might work well in our space. Thanks again for considering us. Looking forward to potentially collaborating down the line." Schulz says he also invited Democrat nominee Kamala Harris on his podcast, but she declined. For their part, the venue denies that the Trump podcast played any part in their decision and disputes that the show was already confirmed, releasing a statement to Fox News: "This show was not cancelled; it was a prospective rental that was never contracted. The decision to pass was made by BAM’s senior staff well before the podcast interview with Donald Trump." I mean, who knows where the truth is in this, but the timing of the email is obviously a little suspicious if the date truly hadn't even been confirmed yet. Why reach out immediately when you don't even have anything scheduled yet? Of course it's also not surprising, given how toxic our political discourse has become. But anyway, here's the podcast that was apparently too much for the Brooklyn Academy of Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry1IjOft95c
