Vanderbilt Selling Pieces Of Their Goal Post To Pay $100,000 Fine To University Of Alabama

Vanderbilt goal post

Not gonna have any trouble paying that fine. Vanderbilt scored the biggest win in their football program's history this weekend when the unranked Commodores upset the #1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in Nashville. Vanderbilt had NEVER beaten a top-5 ranked team in the program's history, and their last win against Alabama came all the way back in 1984. And it's not like it was a fluke win either. The Commodores led the entire game, and the Bama defense was never really able to stop Vandy QB Diego Pavia, who had the offense clicking for the entire game. It was obviously a popular win not only with Vandy fans but for pretty much everybody outside of Tuscaloosa. And as the clock ran out, Vanderbilt fans immediately rushed the field to celebrate the biggest win in program's history: https://twitter.com/awfulannouncing/status/1842714846569103367 And it didn't take long for the goalpost to come down. https://twitter.com/aria_gerson/status/1842715552009363665 And where else do you take the goal post to party in Nashville but to Broadway? The excited crowd marched the post out of the stadium, and then took it on an impromptu three-mile parade to Broadway, past the bars and bachelorette parties before eventually depositing it in the Cumberland River. https://twitter.com/AGrisham247/status/1842729657537278019 https://twitter.com/guyincornfields/status/1842730470934454393 https://twitter.com/gcotham21/status/1842731574296518691 https://twitter.com/PettusWX/status/1842731396118323344 Well the goalpost was eventually fished out of the river and returned to the university - who decided to put the piece of school history to good use. https://twitter.com/DavidSEwing/status/1842757496462618758 The university has announced that they'll be cutting up the goalpost and selling pieces of it to help raise money to pay off their fine to the University of Alabama. As it turns out, when a team is fined for storming the field during an SEC conference game, the money from the fine actually goes to the other school - so Vandy has to pay Alabama $100,000 for beating them. Gotta think they're more than happy to pay up. To help pay off the fine, fans could buy a 4-inch piece of the goal post for only $1,005, or an 8-inch piece for $4,035. Unfortunately if you were hoping to get your hands on a piece of the goal post that captivated the internet, you're already too late. Both the 4-inch and 8-inch option have already sold out, but they still have the pylons from the game available for around $1,200, or if you really want to go all out you can buy a personalized game ball for $3,500 or a game helmet for $14,000. https://twitter.com/VandyFootball/status/1843126834017554912 I have a feeling the school's not too upset about having to pay their opponent on this one. $100k seems like a small price to pay for the biggest win in school history - and apparently fans are happy to help them pay it off.
