The
Happy Gilmore sequel is shaping up to be a big one.
Adam Sandler was initially trying to keep the project under wraps, but just like how his rival would do in the movie, Shooter McGavin himself (Christopher McDonald) accidentally
let things slip a little too early. So the Sandman came out and
confirmed that 'Happy Gilmore 2' is in the works, and has since teased some really big cameos.
He spoke a little bit on that in an interview on
The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon:
"This is happening. We are getting ready to shoot it in New Jersey. We start in a couple of weeks. It's good. We worked hard on the script. We didn't want to let anybody down. People have been asking me for a long time, 'Do Happy Gilmore 2?' and I was always like, 'Nah, I don't want to let you down.'
But then me and my buddy Tim Hurley, we came up with an idea and we're really excited about it. We wrote our asses off. We're continuing to try to make it a movie that you guys will like and I think... we're excited. So many of the golfers are being nice and they're gonna be a part of it."
At first, Sandler was only willing to tease that
the likes of John Daly and Tiger Woods could be making an appearance in the revival. Now, he's seemingly suggesting that we'll see a lot of pro golfers (PGA and LIV?) in the new movie. And Fallon asked a follow up to see if Sandler had hooked up Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce with a role.
Sandler was able to confirm that the star football player will have a cameo in the project:
"Yes. Travis has been... he mentioned it, and so we have a nice something for Travis. He's gonna come by and he's a very nice guy. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He's a stud and he's so funny."
It'll be interesting to see how big of a role Kelce will play, but the cameo will act as yet another media project that the tight end has been a part of. Travis seems to be carving out a post-football-career-lane for himself as he continues to star in movies and TV shows, and I'm sure it will be an honor for him to be cast alongside Happy Gilmore himself for the classic film's highly anticipated sequel.
