Can we all just agree that PETA are a bunch of clowns? Now of course I agree with their mission for the most part. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Sounds great, right? Only psychos wouldn't be on board for that. But time and time again, these idiots take it WAY too far, to the point that you have to wonder whether they're actually just pulling off one hell of a troll job and they don't really care about animals at all. For the most part it seems that everybody just laughs at PETA and their nonsense. Including, as it turns out, head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs, Kirby Smart. During an episode of the McCready & Siskey podcast, former Alabama assistant Tyler Siskey told a hilarious story about the time when then-Bama assistant Smart drew the ire of the animal rights organization. Siskey, who served as the Director of Player Personnel for the Crimson Tide, said that the Sports Information Director, Jeff Purinton, came up to him one day to tell them that they had a problem. Well as it turns out, Smart had recently killed a water moccasin while vacationing with his family, and a friend had posted a picture of it on social media: https://twitter.com/marccourville/status/351710288640348162 Now, that's a big ass snake. Hard to blame Kirby for wanting to kill that one when it came near his family. But as it turns out, the picture made its way back to the fine folks at PETA - who weren't happy about it, and wrote to the Alabama football program demanding a public apology from Kirby Smart. Sounds reasonable. (That's sarcasm, if you couldn't tell by now). Well Siskey and Purinton decided to have a little fun as they told the coach about the situation: "I go in there and I kept a straight face. I was like, 'Kirby, we got a problem.'... And he's looking, and he's like, 'What?' I said, 'You're going to have to make a public apology.' I let it sit for a second, so Kirby's immediately just racing through his mind like, what did I do? I said, 'You know that picture, you know that water moccasin you killed over vacation? PETA wants you to make a public apology. Dude, I don't know if I've ever seen Kirby Smart laugh as hard in my life. Just crying laughing." Man, I would love to see the hard-nosed coach's reaction when he was told that PETA was demanding an apology from him for killing a snake that was swimming around his family. Well the Purinton eventually decided to just tell PETA that assistant coaches weren't allowed to speak to the media, so unfortunately we never got a press conference from Kirby apologizing for killing the snake. But man, if we had? That would have been an all-timer. https://twitter.com/McCreadySiskey/status/1825563404498792846
