As if the media in the greater New York City area isn't enough for Giants quarterback Daniel Jones to contend with, Tom Brady didn't exactly give him a ringing public endorsement on Friday.
Perhaps it's bitterness directed at the franchise who cost him a perfect season and beat him twice in the Super Bowl, but whatever the case, Brady spoke with Stephen A. Smith at Fanatics Fest about his transition from playing to the FOX's broadcast booth for the upcoming NFL season.
In illustrating the difference between how he'd react on the field or off-camera as opposed to on the air, TB12 gave an example of a hypothetical game scenario of a QB throwing an interception. Given the choice of any starting QB in the league, he went with Danny Dimes. Ouch.
"I just don't want to be so critical, because in some ways, I don't necessarily know exactly what the problem was on that play. Let's say, Daniel Jones throws an interception. I didn't mean to say it like that! That wasn't even being critical of Daniel Jones! ...Maybe I was a little bit."

I respect that Brady doesn't want to put a QB on blast in real time while all his family members and friends are watching. Very classy and conscientious of him. At the same time, we better get at least
some unfiltered Brady on TV. This man is the ultimate competitor, and has an insight into offensive football the likes of which we've never seen from a broadcaster.
In the heat of the moment, I have a feeling the carefully-crafted image Brady puts out there will slip from time to time, he'll get too fired up, and he'll inevitably blast either the QB, the receiver who ran the wrong route, or the coaches for poor schematic designs. Maybe all the above. Even league-average NFL offenses must look like elementary, Amateur Night in Dixie jokes of football operations to Tom Brady.
Jones may not have the strongest arm in the game, yet he does have some chops when it comes to downfield accuracy. An improved offensive line and the presence of sixth overall pick Malik Nabers as his WR1 could do wonders for the embattled field general, who's coming off a torn ACL and is facing a make-or-break 2024 season of sorts. If the G-Men flop this year, Jones' days as a starter are likely numbered, and New York might give the pink slip to Brian Daboll's coaching staff and maybe even GM Joe Schoen.
Wild how far the Giants have fallen since their stunning run to the Divisional Round of the playoffs just a couple seasons ago. I'm sure Tom Brady piling on has to sting even more. Oh well. At least G-Men fans have those Eli Manning Super Bowls to lord over Brady for the rest of time.
