Harrison Butker

The Kansas City Chiefs are locking up their kicker. Why wouldn't they? Harrison Butker has been one of the most consistent and dependable kickers (not named Justin Tucker) in the NFL for years. And time and time again, when the weight of the game rested on the shoulders (or feet?) of Butker, he kicked it through the uprights and helped carry the Chiefs to three Super Bowl victories. Since 2017, Butker has made 89% of his kicks, and set an NFL record with a 57-yard field goal in the Super Bowl. Thanks to that, he's now locked in until the 2028 season with a four-year, $25.6 million extension. Oh, and it's also important to note that Butker represented and negotiated his own extension, which means he avoided agent fees and brought in the maximum amount of money for himself. https://twitter.com/adamschefter/status/1820544910325682409?s=46&t=xwKs_UeeNEe2lBwcPP2CNw Looking at Harrison's on-field performances, this extension really comes as no surprise. But the main reason why this dump truck full of cash heading towards Butker's house is making a lot of noise is become of some of his recent, off-the-field commentary that he's provided. Specifically, a commencement speech at Benedictine College that Butker gave caused quite the stir. Some were quick to call the NFL kicker "misogynistic" after clips pulled from his speech like this one below started to spread all across social media. Butker obviously didn't have any ill-intent with this quote, and he was speaking to a group of devout Catholics about his own Catholic beliefs. But of course a lot of people (who his message wasn't intended for in the first place) got upset by it. https://twitter.com/thattradgal/status/1790577954520432862?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1790577954520432862%7Ctwgr%5E163958443b2c605da40d7e721c9a39894b65d9c3%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.whiskeyriff.com%2F2024%2F05%2F23%2Fyou-have-a-lot-of-opinions-i-dont-like-andy-reid-patrick-mahomes-defend-harrison-butker-to-room-full-of-reporters%2F It's those kinds of viewpoints from Harrison Butker that led to social media sounding off about his contract extension with a lot of jokes - and in some cases, a lot of anger. Since the NFL kicker believes that wives should stay at home, a lot of the internet has been quick to point out that this four-year extension should help his wife out at home (along with angering a lot of different people): Gotta think his wife's going to be able to do whatever she wants now.
