Joe Biden Officially Announces He’s Dropping Out Of The Presidential Race

Well there it is. Ever since his disastrous debate performance against former President Donald Trump, there have been growing calls for President Joe Biden to step aside as the nominee for the Democrat party. Biden has insisted that he planned on remaining in the race, even as his poll numbers showed that he was lagging behind Trump in key swing states. And it's been pretty clear that Joe's lost a step or two (or twenty) over the years, as questions continue to arise about his mental fitness, including from his own party. But now, he's decided to give it up. In a letter released today, the president announced that he will no longer run for re-election, though he'll serve out the remaining months of his term. Biden said that he believes the decision is "in the best interest of my party and the country," and that he plans on speaking to the country about his decision later this week. Obviously this changes the entire presidential race, as Democrats scramble to find a new candidate just months before the election. Vice President Kamala Harris seems to be the obvious option, but she doesn't poll especially well against Trump either and Democrats have seemed hesitant to rally behind her as the nominee. Could we see somebody like California Governor Gavin Newsom jump in? Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro? Will we get Trump vs. Hillary 2.0?
