San Francisco 49ers superstar Christian McCaffrey had a pretty awesome wedding recently. His mom stole the show on the dance floor. Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan was almost unrecognizable whilst debuting a pronounced mustache. Looked like a killer time overall.
Unfortunately, it appears Cam Newton didn't get the memo, or rather the invitation. Kind of a sad story since Newton and CMC played together for several years with the Carolina Panthers. They both struggled with injuries and couldn't get on the field at the same time as often as they would've liked. Good news? Despite the wedding invite mishap, it seems as if Cam and McCaffrey are still on good terms.
Thanks to Newton's podcast, we have the god-tier response McCaffrey gave that could've been as simple as, "I lost your number!" but instead turned into a wild hypothetical exchange of dialogue between himself and retired Panthers tight end Greg Olsen.

The imagination here is staggering. McCaffrey is a football genius who was able to digest Shanahan's playbook almost immediately upon his arrival in San Francisco. Who knew he had a promising career as a potential Hollywood writer? I know CMC has done some commercials, so maybe he started taking an interest in acting or whatever, but this is next-level.
Positioning Creed's "With Arms Wide Open" as the climactic moment of this fictional exchange is the cherry on top. The legendary rock band is obviously, inexorably tied to the NFL forever because of their Thanksgiving halftime performance in support of the Dallas Cowboys. That man soaring through the air during "Higher" will never not be bizarrely fascinating and one of the funnier bits of music/imagery mashups ever committed to film.

Here's hoping Cam and Christian reconnect. Too bad their careers and prime years didn't overlap a little more. You can bet Panthers fans would've loved that. They've had to watch McCaffrey leave Charlotte and become the focal point of the powerhouse 49ers, who've advanced to the NFC Championship Game or further in each of the (parts of) two seasons CMC has been in the Bay Area.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are a total mess who fired their coach Frank Reich 11 games into last season. Because of how catastrophic their trade to acquire Bryce Young looks at present, we've almost forgotten how rough it is that they failed such a blue-chip talent like McCaffrey and shipped him away. The 49ers paid a premium to get CMC. Not always advisable when it comes to running backs. So far, once again, it's Carolina who looks to have gotten the short end of the stick on that deal, because the good times just keep on rolling for CMC.
