![Brad Pitt]()
Some people on social media weren't too jazzed about the recent title reveal of Brad Pitt's Formula 1 movie simply being
F1.
Between this initial teaser trailer and the fact that
Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is at the helm, I think there's plenty of reason to believe the film itself will make up for any underwhelming feelings about its title.

To put out this substantial of a teaser almost a full year out from its June 27, 2025, release date gives you an idea of how confident Apple and Warner Bros. is in this extremely ambitious project. Pitt appears to have gone all-in on training to be somebody who can at least passably pretend to be an F1 driver. The coolest part by far of the trailer is toward the end. There's a close-up on Pitt and you can clearly see he's punching the accelerator with the blurry background quickly passing him by.

The real-life F1 drivers and teams are all in this movie, and Lewis Hamilton serves as one of the producers. They really went for it, and again, the filmmaker behind
Top Gun: Maverick who had to coordinate all the wild, white-knuckle set pieces involving actual military planes should be up to the task of handling whatever challenges went on here. We've never seen a racing movie quite like this one in terms of being right in the thick of the action.
Formula 1 driving is more of a young man's sport, so Pitt is catching some criticism for being behind the wheel at age 60, despite this being a fictional story. Whatever. Brad Pitt doesn't look 60 at all because, well, he's Brad Pitt. I think with how visually stunning this film figures to be, people will be willing to suspend disbelief. If Tom Cruise ain't washed yet, neither is Brad.
But there is a more youthful driver in the cast who appears to be playing Pitt's teammate. Damson Idris is getting his first big crack at a massive movie after starring on the FX series
Snowfall for a number of years. You know the meme.

According to
an interview Pitt gave in July 2023, his character got into a bad crash and had to retire from Formula 1 in the '90s, but the team owner (played by Javier Bardem) lures him out of retirement to mentor Idris' character. Sounds good enough plot-wise to me.
Still a long wait before
F1 hits theaters, but it should be well worth it. If there's ever a stretch run that could course-correct the box office for the foreseeable future, it's coming in Summer 2025. We're getting
F1 on June 27,
Superman on July 11, and then
The Fantastic Four on July 25. That'll do.
