Kyle Busch's NASCAR crash - and then his inexplicable spot reset - has not settled well for Dale Earnhardt Jr..
It's the big controversy right now in the NASCAR world, and pretty much everyone is upset about it. Especially the former driver of the 8 and 88 cars. Busch was
clearly involved in a crash in Nashville during the Ally 400 NASCAR Cup Series race, which should have sent him to the back of the pack.
Instead, NASCAR basically disregarded their own rules and gave Kyle Busch his spot back, which angered a lot of fans, and the always trustworthy voice of Dale Earnhardt Jr.. He spoke about the incident - or rather ranted about it - on the latest episode of the
Dale Jr. Download:
"I don’t understand how he gets it back. I watched the guy go up and hit the wall. I know he didn’t drive into the wreck, he didn’t hit the one car that was spinning out in front of him, but he did go up the racetrack, make contact with the outside wall. In that moment for me, he’s in the wreck."
Seems simple enough when Dale says it like that.
And if you thought that's all Earnhardt Jr. had to say on the matter, you'd be flat out wrong. As the conversation continued, he had no problem calling out NASCAR for their decision:
"I don't know what NASCAR is thinking there. I've got nothing against Kyle Busch. I'm a believer that they get a win, keep themselves in the playoff. I'm a believer that they are absolutely still capable of doing all that. But not matter who it is in that scenario, I don't understand NASCAR's reasoning. That doesn't jive with the last 30 years of racing that I've watched."
When it comes to NASCAR's reasoning for giving Kyle Busch his spot back, they stated that Busch made a clear attempt to slow down in order to avoid wreck. They also concluded that at time of caution, Busch was in exposition, which is why he restarted at 4th later into the race.

That wasn't a good enough explanation for Dale. Upon hearing that reasoning, Earnhardt Jr. dove into another similar example from his racing days when a driver was given back their spot after being involved in a wreck. He might have an upcoming broadcasting gig, but he wasn't worried about hurting anyone's feeling with this last quote:
"That was bullsh*t then, and it’s bullsh*t today. I don’t care what you tell me. I watched a guy crash into the wreck. He’s done. He’s going to finish in the back. No way his ass gets put back in his position like nothing happened to him."
