Good luck getting away from all of the
"Hawk Tuah" memes that have flooded the internet.
If you've somehow missed the boat on the Hawk Tuah girl (have you been living under a rock?), allow me to get you caught up. The formula is actually rather simple. A girl was interviewed on the street, she created a new NSFW phrase, and the rest is meme history.
Here it is, just for reference:
Surely the Hawk Tuah jokes will slow down at some point, but for now, they are at full force in every direction you look. The girl,
now identified as Nashville resident Hailey Welch, has even started selling merchandise. There are also reports that
talent agencies are trying to sign her to some sort of entertainment contract, as crazy (and sad) as that sounds.
You can't even turn on a baseball game anymore and
not have the phrase "Hawk Tuah" come up. During an Atlanta Braves matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Braves TV crew noticed that Cardinals outfielder Alec Burleson was spitting while he was at bat... and it wasn't making it far enough to clear his shoulder:
"He just spit on his shoulder. Went to spit, a little humid out I guess, mouth getting a little bit dry and couldn't quite clear his arm. Landed right on the shoulder."
It's those kinds of observations that make me love baseball so much. There's so much time in a baseball game that allows for broadcasters to tell stories and point out details that no other sport has the time for. However, it was the response to that observation from Atlanta's envelope-pushing play-by-play announcer Brandon Guadin that takes the cake:
"HAWK TUAH."
