Jim Schlossnagle

Guess it was a valid question... Texas A&M fell to the Tennessee Volunteers yesterday in game 3 of the College World Series, but throughout the weekend speculation had been flying that Aggies coach Jim Schlossnagle would be leaving for in-state rival Texas after the tournament was complete. Well immediately after the game, a reporter asked Schlossnagle about the rumors and his future at Texas A&M, and the coach had some harsh words for the inquiring media member: "I think it's pretty selfish of you to ask me that question, to be honest with you. I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. And that hasn't changed in my mind. That's unfair to talk about something like that... I understand you gotta ask the question. But I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job, and I've poured every once of my soul in this job, and I've given this job every single ounce I could possibly give it. So write that." Sure sounds like he's staying, right? Nope, he's taking the Texas job. Less than 24 hours after delivering his impassioned speech, it was reported by 247 Sports that Schlossnagle was set to take the Longhorns job, with Texas prepared to pay the $2.7 million buyout to get him to Austin. The coach reportedly met with his team earlier today to inform them that he was weighing his decision, and then later met with university officials to inform them that he would be bolting for Texas. A&M and Schlossnagle both released statements a few minutes ago confirming the move: https://twitter.com/12thMan/status/1805759862762000624 And Texas also confirmed the hiring https://twitter.com/TexasBaseball/status/1805767947463401884 As he mentioned in his statement, Schlossnagle is close friends with Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte, so it's not an unexpected move. But the optics of doing it less than 24 hours after getting so fired up when a reporter dared to ask you about the rumors...I mean, come on. And one thing's for sure: Aggie fans aren't happy. https://twitter.com/agknockstom/status/1805756120310726827 https://twitter.com/GarrettSmithTX/status/1805745168227651678 https://twitter.com/TorturedAggie/status/1805739978900881564 https://twitter.com/TAMUSlicedBread/status/1805754771908792324
