The Florida Panther were
this close to being remembered as the one of the biggest choke jobs in the history of sports.
Now, after defeating the Edmonton Oilers (and their super fan Kait) in Game 7, they get to parade around the state of Florida as the Stanley Cup champions. Gone are the, "Will the Florida Panthers blow a 3-0 series lead?" memes, and here are the videos of the historic trophy in different, questionable situations.
You don't have to be a hockey fan to love a good Stanley Cup celebration, at least in my opinion. I personally didn't have any horse in the race that was Panthers versus Oilers, yet I've thoroughly enjoyed all of the post-Stanley-Cup-victory footage that has come out.
It's probably a safe bet saying that the Florida Panthers team hasn't slept since they won last night. Judging by the slow leak of social media videos, it looks like they've been celebrating since the final second of Game 7 ticked off the clock. And good for them for doing so, because the anxiety in South Florida was as high as ever heading into last night's competition.
If you know anything about Fort Lauderdale, Elbo Room is a premiere spot, right there on Las Olas Beach:

But a little anxiety is nothing a bunch of beer poured into your mouth from the Stanley Cup two floors up can't cure:

That was probably dangerous, was it not?
Anyways, I know that video above is
wild, but it pales in comparison to this next one. It's only fitting that a Stanley Cup won by a Florida team makes its way to the beach. What better photo to depict the irony of an ice hockey team from the hottest place in the country than a team picture by the ocean?
Only it wasn't just for a photo-op. Instead, star forward Matthew Tkachuk stripped down, grabbed the presumably heavy Stanley Cup, and ran into the ocean with it. That can't be good for the trophy, can it?
Hey, I'm glad they are having fun, but I can't imagine the NHL liked seeing its prized trophy in the ocean. There's a possibility that's just a duplicate "Lord Stanley" that the team got to tour around, and at this point, I honestly hope that's the case.
Otherwise, the NHL is going to have a lot of fun getting the salt rust off the prized trophy...
