Caitlin Clark Angel Reese

With the Stanley Cup Final and NBA Finals idle on this fine Father's Day Sunday, us sports junkies were at least treated to one of the more heated one-sided beefs in modern sports history in the WNBA. Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark's guts with a vitriolic passion, despite her public insistence that she doesn't. It dates back to college. I've covered it before, but suffice it to say when obscure Chicago Sky player Chennedy Clark cheap shot Clark a couple weeks ago, Reese couldn't hide her glee as she celebrated from the bench. Not only did the Sky go on to lose to Clark's Fever squad in that game, but Reese decided to get yet another dirty foul in during Sunday's rematch. I tell you, what a stunner this was. https://twitter.com/CBSSports/status/1802391960210026690 It doesn't compute to me how Reese has millions of followers on Instagram. Nor does it compute as to how her pettiness — along with the pettiness of the WNBA at large towards Clark — knows no bounds. Maybe Reese continues to be frustrated that, you know, Clark is single-handedly driving so much business for the WNBA, women's basketball and women's sports in general, that she doesn't know how else to express her enraged jealousy except to lash out in violent spurts. Or to celebrate similarly aggressive acts that others inflict upon the new face of the WNBA. Reese bricked nine of her 13 shots from the field on Sunday, whereas Clark led all scorers with 23 points to go with eight boards, nine assists and two blocks in Indiana's 91-83 victory. https://twitter.com/WNBA/status/1802404383390331026 Yup, that's right. The Sky lost to Clark for a second time. Bear in mind, the Fever drafted No. 1 overall because they were the worst team in the league. They're still only 5-10 this season. It's such a beautiful reality that two of their dubs came against Reese and Chicago. Tell 'em, Matt Leinart of all people! https://twitter.com/MattLeinartQB/status/1802403432076296466 I hate that all the debate around Clark is twisted into this weird race-baiting BS, or some other such thing that makes it more macro-social/political than it actually is. Don't know what other pro-Clark peoples' views are, but at least for me, it's pretty simple. Clark is a baller. She brings a singular excitement to women's sports that I've never really experienced. It sucks that the vast majority of her peers only want to seem to tear her down. Rather than letting their play do the talking, they're going onto the court with the apparent intent to hurt her. At least nowadays, I haven't seen a player targeted so blatantly as Clark. I'd prefer it to stop. There's only so much "welcome to the LEAGUE" antics that I can buy before I can ignore the plain as day truth that it all seems genuinely malicious. Angel Reese and so many other WNBA players have a chance to ride the wave Clark has brought about. They could elevate their own statures in the sports world. Instead, they're coming across like immature, off-putting bush leaguers with cruel intentions.
