![George Kittle]()
It would've been awesome to get a second season of
Quarterback from Netflix, but the problem was,
the streaming giant couldn't find enough willing participants for their documentary series. Patrick Mahomes was the clear superstar headliner of Season 1's trio. However, Kirk Cousins was living proof of just how popular somebody could become by presenting themselves well in that context. Then there was Marcus Mariota and, well, he ain't a starter anymore. Even his narrative captured the brutal, unforgiving reality of being a pro QB.
Now that I've seen the trailer for
Receiver, which reminded me of the embarrassment of riches Netflix has for this show in terms of raw star power, the quarterbacks saying no feels like such a blessing in retrospect.

We're less than a month away from
Receiver's premiere on July 10 — and we're getting an inside look at some of the biggest names in the sport. Consider the players Netflix's cameras are following: Justin Jefferson, Davante Adams, Amon-Ra St. Brown, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel. There isn't a weak link among them.
You almost couldn't have handpicked a better group of players to follow
now with foreknowledge of everything that happened last season. That's part of what makes
Receiver so exciting. Jefferson had a historically great start to his career in his first three seasons, only to miss seven games in 2023 due to injury. His QB Cousins went down with a torn Achilles. The Vikings hung tough in the playoff hunt despite a revolving door of quarterbacks. The artist known as JJ faced the Detroit Lions twice at the end of the season and put up a combined 18 catches for 333 yards and two TDs.

Speaking of the Lions, St. Brown is one of the most underrated players in the whole league. He piled up 119 receptions with 1,515 yards and 10 TDs this past season. Further compelling is the fact that St. Brown was a fourth-round pick in 2021, the same year Dan Campbell and GM Brad Holmes arrived in Detroit. He has a healthy chip on his shoulder that's driven him to be one of the best. Consequentially, he's helped catalyze the Lions' rapid transformation into a formidable NFC contender.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle's colorful personality is on full display in this trailer. It says a lot about Kittle's skill as a pass-catcher and his charisma that he doesn't even play the receiver position and is still nevertheless in this documentary. Another versatile chess piece to the 49ers' exotic offense, Deebo Samuel, is costarring in
Receiver, too. We'll get an inside look at
San Francisco's crushing Super Bowl loss, which marks the second time Kittle and Deebo have lost the Big Game. You even get a clip of Kittle from the first loss, saying that he'll be back with a vengeance. Tough Freezing Cold Take moment there.
Last but not least,
Receiver will deliver an inside perspective of the
Las Vegas Raiders/Josh McDaniels sh*t show from somebody as exceptional on the field as he candid off it in Davante Adams.

Then there's the fun that ensued when Antonio Pierce took over as interim coach from McDaniels.
Pierce ultimately kept the job, as Jay Glazer more or less predicted in the video above.
Receiver is a Day 1 watch for me. Tudum.
