![Glen Powell]()
Dating is tough out there these days with all the app, smartphone, and surface-level weirdness as everyone tries to pretend to not catch feelings, but
this situation involving a friend of Glen Powell's sister is a whole other level.
On the
Therapuss podcast hosted by Jake Shane, Powell described one of the more harrowing tales you'll ever hear on the dating scene, wherein this lady went out with a "super charming" guy, went back to his apartment, and realized that something felt "off" upon arrival. The man began rubbing lotion on her, giving her a massage, and thankfully she had the sense to get outta there. Let's let Powell's storytelling prowess do the talking here...
"She goes on a date with this guy. The guy’s super charming, and they have a great night. She goes back to his apartment that night. […] As she got back to his apartment, she just started getting like weird vibes. She's like,’ something feels off.’
And he's like, ‘Can I give you a massage?’ Like, sure. So she starts massaging her shoulders […] Everything's just feeling odd and she's like, ‘I gotta get out of here.’ He gets a little weird like, ‘No, please — don't leave. Sorry I got weird.’ Whatever it is, she leaves."
Take that bit of the story at face value, and you might figure that this was merely a somewhat awkward guy who fumbled the bag. Couldn't seal the deal at the end of the night.
Now get a load of this next part, which was spoiled in the headline but is no less chilling to read in its entirety.
"Her skin starts itching like crazy the next day. she goes to the doctor the next day, and he does a test on her skin. And it turns out that it's a black market lotion that breaks down skin for human consumption.
This man was rubbing lotion on her body to eat her. So the doctor's like, you gotta give me this person's address, and you should call the police. They go to this guy's house, and he had several girls’ bodies in the house."

WTF. Talk about being lucky to get away from a situation with your life. How easy could it have been for this lady to just roll with a seemingly charming guy who might've just been getting nervous about not blowing a great first date?
Quite unsettling how somebody so disturbed and cruel can come across as so charismatic to lure victims in. Serious shades of Ted Bundy, or so it sounds like.
What if Powell's sister's friend never went to the doctor? That black market lotion must've been some pretty powerful stuff. Think about how easy is it for anyone these days to go online and plunge into the abyss of a WebMD rabbit hole. For ailments far less severe than the one in question here, any individual can catastrophize and think something is seriously wrong, only to realize they're overreacting. BUT, sometimes, it's
not an overreaction.
Who knows, this deranged killer might've been the subject of one of the umpteen true crime documentaries around these days. What a scary situation. Doesn't exactly give the single dudes of today much goodwill, but in all seriousness, here's hoping that guy rots in Hell for what he did to his victims.
This podcast happened a little while ago, but hadn't seen the story make the rounds until Saturday. It's all below for those interested.

Also, make it a point to watch
Hit Man on Netflix. In fact, do yourself a favor and double feature it with
Godzilla Minus One in whichever order you fancy. Had the privilege of seeing
Hit Man in theaters. What a shame that it didn't get a full-blown theatrical run. Powell stars in the movie, produced it, co-wrote it with famed director Richard Linklater, and I don't know what else you need to hear to check it out. I had lofty expectations for
Hit Man. Those were exceeded. That's how good it is.
Get ready to see a lot more of Glen Powell, too, with
Twisters hitting theaters in July. With how much of a roll Powell is on, it's more likely than not that the long-gestating sequel will be a big hit as well.
