Between the College Football Playoff expanding to 12 teams and the explosion of NIL money alone, it pays to stay ahead of the curve on recruiting. If you want to make deep playoff runs on a regular basis, you'll need an elite roster year in and year out, and the Texas Longhorns certainly have a grasp on that concept. To entice the myriad 2025 recruits who made official visits to campus in Austin, the Longhorns let out a lineup of Lamborghinis. The luxury sports cars are a couple hundred thousand dollars a pop at their cheapest: https://twitter.com/CJVogel_OTF/status/1799199257288700182 You can see the opulent, "everything's bigger in Texas" scene made an impression on 5-star athlete Michael Terry III. https://twitter.com/mterry_3/status/1799258457024954662 Per 247Sports, Terry was among seven recruits who were on site to see what Texas was all about. Quite an operation and spectacle head coach Steve Sarkisian has assembled down there. Sark and whomever is on his recruiting staff do a phenomenal job. They convinced Arch Manning to come to Austin despite the presence of another No. 1 overall, 5-star stud at quarterback in Quinn Ewers. Something about dangling Lambos in front of impressionable teenagers feels more than a little out of place. While I think it's great that college players can earn deserved NIL money for all that they do for their universities, those who can afford a Lamborghini on their own are few and far between. Whatever. Not going to be a screaming at the clouds old man about it too much. Gotta do what you gotta do on the recruiting trail. You almost need shocking imagery like Lambos to compel recruits to stay put. The transfer portal is hyper-active — perhaps even more of a Wild West than the NIL game — and it's easy for players to seek greener pastures/increased playing time/potentially better NIL deals elsewhere. At least the perception brought about by the Longhorns flaunting a Lamborghini lineup is that it'll be hard to beat what Texas can offer the nation's top incoming collegiate stars. If it were me? Just let me meet Matthew McConaughey, guarantee me a spot in one of his classes, and I'll hard commit well in advance of National Signing Day. https://twitter.com/awfulannouncing/status/1742029694055366888
