Whatever you say, Bill…
Of course, the legendary NFL-turned-college football coach Bill Belichick has been making tons of headlines over the last several months due to his public relationship with 24-year old Jordon Hudson, who almost 50 years younger than him… and after the controversial CBS interview when Jordon stepped in to shut down questions about how they met a couple weeks ago, the attention on them has exploded.
Hudson has been seen at UNC football practice, where Bill is coaching his first season with a $50 million contract, making him the highest-paid employee at the University of North Carolina… and the highest-paid person in the entire UNC school system across the state and all public universities. So yeah, there’s a LOT riding on this job, and Hudson is very much causing problems in both his personal and professional life because of their relationship and how it’s bleeding over into all aspects of his job.
Even family members have reportedly started to get worried about her intentions and what could become of Bill’s legacy should the negative press continue, and reports have been coming out recently that Hudson has been banned from UNC football facilities, though the school has denied that, saying she is welcome anytime and anywhere.
There’s a lot of conflicting information, and the bottom line is that, if the relationship between Belichick and Hudson starts to get in the way of his success on the field come football season (if he even makes it to football season), there will be massive problems for all involved. But in his first interview sine the viral CBS moment, Bill appeared on ESPN’s Sports Center with host Christine Williamson while attending the annual ACC Spring meetings in Florida, who asked very directly about the situation with Hudson:
“All the specifics aside, because a lot has come out in the last couple of days, how do you think that that impacts your ability to coach this football team, if at all?”
Belichick had a much more refined answer, speaking for himself this time (it’s been rumored that he recently hired a new PR person, Brandon Faber, former Chicago Bears vice president of communications), saying he and Hudson have a “personal relationship,” adding that “she doesn’t have anything to do with UNC football”:
“I mean, that’s really off to the side. It’s a personal relationship and she doesn’t have anything to do with UNC football. I’m excited to be back in the coaches meetings and getting ready for June, and then August we get to training camp, so June will be a big recruiting month for us and then August we’ll start to get ready for the season.”
Well, she certainly made her presence known during their spring game not long ago:

When asked about how much attention their relationship has gotten on social media and if players have been talking about it off the field, Bill evaded giving a direct answer, assuring everyone watching that his relationship will have no effect on the success of his football players:
“Yeah, I talk to players when we meet with them when they come in to visit and so forth, sure. Great, again, we want to make the players the best that they can be, provide them the best opportunity on and off the field, and that’s what were about at UNC, and that goes for every single player we have.”
He says he hopes to continue the legacy of winning he built in New England as an NFL coach to continue:
“Again, just to stack good days on top of each other, we’ll see where the process takes us. I believe in the process, I believe in what we’re doing, and we have a lot of people working really hard. We’ll just keep putting those together and see where it goes.”
Per the usual with him, we didn’t get too much from this, really, but at least he was able to answer everything without being interrupted by Hudson… it’s probably for the best that she lay very low, because if she keeps it up making this big public controversies, Bill might find himself officially retired and out of a job.
And no matter what he says, I’d be seriously concerned about what’s to come if I was a Carolina football fan…
