Russell Brand Charged With Rape & Sexual Assault By UK Police Following Accusations Made By Multiple Women

Looks like Russell Brand might be spending some time in the big house.

In 2023, an investigation was launched against Russell Brand after a United Kingdom news station and The Sunday Times shared allegations made toward the comedian and actor.

In a press release, it was shared that Brand was under investigation:

“In 1999 a woman was raped in the Bournemouth area, in 2001 a woman was indecently assaulted in the Westminster area of London, in 2004 a woman was orally raped and sexually assaulted in the Westminster area of London and between 2004 and 2005, a woman was sexually assaulted in the Westminster area of London

Today those investigations have come to an end as the Metropolitan Police have charged Russell Brand, 49, with one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault. All four of these charges relate to four different women.

Brand will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on May 2.

Although Brand has been charged, Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, made it clear that if anyone else still has information surrounding these charges, they should come forward and share that each brave woman who shared their story will receive continued professional support.

“The women who have made reports continue to receive support from specially trained officers. The Met’s investigation remains open and detectives ask anyone who has been affected by this case, or anyone who has any information, to come forward and speak with police.”

Brand getting officially charged is not a good look, given he went online in 2023, shortly after these women came forward, adamantly saying that these were false accusations, and said that all relationships he’s ever had have been consensual.

“I’ve received two extremely disturbing letters, or a letter and an email, one from a mainstream media TV company, one from a newspaper, listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks, as well as some some pretty stupid stuff…. But amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.”

He notes that these allegations occurred when he was heavily involved in the mainstream media. He said that this was a time during his life when he was very permissive, but was always expressing himself sexually in a consensual way.

“I was always transparent about that, then — almost too transparent. And I’m being transparent about it now as well. And to see that transparency metastasized into something criminal, that I absolutely deny, makes me question, is there another agenda at play? Particularly when we’ve seen coordinated media attacks before.”

In this video, he said that he felt these allegations from mainstream media outlets were responsible for this, and because he has been speaking out freely about his views, these allegations and the launch of this investigation were his punishment.

Unfortunately for Brand, when news of this broke, no one online was surprised that he was charged after the initial allegations. The Onion, which is notorious for making outlandish false headlines, hit the nail on the head when they published a blog titled “Nation Could Have Sworn Russell Brand Was Already Convicted Sex Offender.”

A portion of the article reads:

“‘Interesting…so Russell Brand definitely wasn’t already found guilty of sexual assault back in, like…2016, 2017?’ said 39-year-old New York resident Scott Hasard, echoing the thoughts of 330 million Americans as he noted that when he saw allegations emerge about the actor, comedian, and podcast host, he had assumed it was simply repackaged content from nearly a decade ago.”

The Twitter community felt similar sentiments after hearing this news, with many social media users noting that they always thought Brand was a creep and were not shocked.
