Hope everyone had a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day celebrating Irish culture and heritage by getting HAMMERED drunk.
Instead of drinking heavily on the Irish holiday, UFC star Conor McGregor spent his St. Patrick’s Day meeting and speaking at the White House. The fighter had traveled there to meet with President Donald Trump to speak on issues that his home country of Ireland has been facing.
But apparently no one (at least some of the politicians there) from Ireland asked him or wanted him to do so.
Despite that, McGregor stood up in front of the media and went on a sprawling tangent about how the government of Ireland has failed its people. He took center stage behind the microphone with the White House logo behind him and started spitting out his thoughts and viewpoints on the current state of his homeland.
He brought the same energy that he would have brought to a fight preview:
“Never on the main stage have the issues that the people of Ireland face been spoke. Our government has long since abandoned the voices of the people of Ireland. It’s high time that America is made aware of what’s going on Ireland. What is going on Ireland is a travesty.
Our government is a government with zero action and zero accountability. Our money is being spent overseas on issues that have nothing to do with the Irish people. The illegal immigration racket is running rampant on the country.”

Those comments from McGregor triggered Irish politicians and leaders to respond. Ireland’s Taoiseach (head of government/prime minister) Michael Martin took to his social media account to quickly condemn what the UFC fighter had to say about the country on the Irish holiday:
“St. Patrick’s Day around the world is a day rooted in community, humanity, friendship and fellowship. Conor McGregor’s remarks are wrong, and do not reflect the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, or the views of the people of Ireland.”

And Martin wasn’t the only one to quickly fire back at McGregor.
Colum Eastwood, the Social Democratic & Labour Party MP for Foyle, was a little bit more blunt with his messaging. He declared that the UFC fighter is an embarrassment to the Republic of Ireland:
“Conor McGregor has never been elected to anything, he doesn’t represent the Irish people. In fact, we’re all pretty embarrassed by him.”

So what does any good fighter do when he takes a hit? He throws a punch right back.
Later in the day, McGregor responded to the backlash that had arisen online with another rant against his home country. A reporter informed him of what had been said by Irish politicians, and Conor once again did not hold back with his anti-Ireland-government views:
“Every available metric has shown that the government of Ireland has failed the people of Ireland. In 10 years, Dublin City center has gone from one of the most safest cities in Europe to one of the most dangerous. Shame on him for saying that. Speaking down on an Irish man.”

“Shame on him for saying that…
I won’t speak about him personally, or throw a jab – I could, I could throw many jabs at him.”
