What’s even the point of St. Patrick’s Day if you can’t go out and get blasted at a parade?
I don’t get to celebrate St. Patty’s Day as much as I did back when I was in college, but back then it was up there with Christmas and the 4th of July as my favorite holidays because it was basically just an excuse to get blackout drunk on a random weeknight. I mean, not that I ever really needed an excuse but at least it was more socially acceptable on March 17…
Things have changed a lot now that I’m older, and the thought of going out on a weekday and getting shitfaced could not appeal to me less. The hangovers hurt a lot more than they used to. But it’s still a rite of passage for college kids.
Unfortunately the Boston Police Department doesn’t see it that way though. The city held their annual St. Patrick’s Day parade yesterday, and of course people were out across the city just trying to have a good time. And that included quite a few college kids who were ready to throw a few back, black out, maybe get so drunk they saw a leprechaun, who knows.
But Boston police were apparently quite the buzzkills, showing off the alcohol that was confiscated during the parade – including quite a few BORGs.

If you’re not familiar, BORG stands for “blackout rage gallon,” and it’s basically a gallon jug filled with vodka, some kind of flavoring like Kool-Aid or Gatorade, maybe some Pedialyte to help with the hangover from all that sugar. Pretty sure it’s the equivalent of the jungle juice that I drank from a dirty cooler on the porch of some sketchy house in college. All I know that BORGs are apparently all the rage among college kids these days as a cheap and easy way to get shitfaced, and they’re even naming their BORG and having fun with it.
(I feel old explaining that, BORGs weren’t a thing when I was in college – but at least we had the original Four Loko).
Anyway, it appears that no BORG was safe during the Boston St. Patrick’s Day festivities as the police showed off their impressive collection of confiscated drinks with creative names like “US-Mexico BORGer” and “BORGan Wallen.” Props to whoever came up with that one.
But of course many online wondered if confiscating alcohol from folks at a parade was really the best use of police resources. I mean, the cops probably had to walk by somebody shooting up meth just to take away the BORG.

And people were also impressed with the creativity of some of the BORG names:

Yeah, the kids are gonna be alright. Just let them drink their BORGs in peace. It’s St. Patrick’s day, and if they want to get blackout drunk and throw up from some sugary alcohol concoction, shouldn’t they be allowed to just like we did back in the day?
I thought this was America.
