Tennessee Sorority Girls Go Viral For Dressing As Saint Patrick For St. Paddy’s Day Party

Best costume of the year goes to..

It’s not even Halloween yet, and thanks to this St. Patrick’s Day enthusiast group, we already have a costume of the year contender. As the Irish car bomb filled holiday approaches, some college students celebrate St. Paddy’s early due to spring break schedules. And let’s face it: college kids will always celebrate early if that means they can have a party with friends before parting ways for tropical destinations.

St. Patrick’s Day by pounding green beers, wearing “Kiss Me, I’m Irish” apparel, and enjoying a day out with friends. The meaning behind the holiday is deeper than looking for a leprechaun with a pot of gold.

However, the holiday actually celebrates the death of the patron saint, Saint Patrick. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, the true meaning behind the holiday is as follows.

“St. Patrick’s Day was originally celebrated in Ireland with religious services and feasts in honour of St. Patrick, one of Ireland’s patron saints. When Irish immigrants brought St. Patrick’s Day traditions to the United States, the day evolved into a secular celebration of Irish culture.”

And by Irish culture, they mean… copious amounts of booze.

But given that the Irish made it one big party in their nation, we had to follow suit when Irish settlers came to the United States.

While most folks wear Shamrocks and various shades of green on the holiday, a group of University of Tennessee sorority girls paid homage to the holiday’s tradition and pulled out Saint Patrick garments for their celebratory darty.

(If you’re not familiar with the term “darty,” it’s youth slang for “day party”)

The girls made a TikTok video that has gone mega viral in the 24 hours since posting, gaining 2.5 million views and over 450 thousand likes. The video hilariously shows two young women dressed in green and yellow Saint attire, noting that the attendees of their Paddy’s Day party did not appreciate their costume in the light they hoped for.

They put a sound over the video showing off their attire that amplified this feeling:

“Let’s make fun of the girl who took a risk and put herself out there creatively.”

As a St. Patrick’s Day enthusiast myself, I need the link ASAP. This costume is way better than the attire I usually see folks sporting on St. Paddy’s. Many of the comments agreed, with big brands like Subway, Skinny Dipped, and Hu Kitchen commenting on the video.

Check out some of our favorites before you go.

“I’m catholic, and this is amazing.”

“I WOULD DIE TO SEE SLOSHED ST PATRICK. R U KIDDING?”

“He’s the reason for the season.”

“I would never make fun of you girls.”

“I normally hate St. Patrick’s Day, but I’m on board with this.”

“As a catholic…THIS IS HILARIOUS. I LOVE IT.”

“And y’all are gonna pull the most too.”

“Okay, you win.”

“Excellent use of free will.”

As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, y’all party responsibly out there. Don’t forget to say “yeah” if you see a leprechaun in a tree.
