Apple Announces Season 4 Of ‘Ted Lasso’ Is In The Works, & Fans… Aren’t All That Excited

Ted Lasso is BACK.

Now I don’t want to blame Apple TV and the people tasked with promoting the show, but they really did fans dirty by making us think that Ted Lasso had its curtain call back in 2023. That being said, most fans were “smiling because it happened” instead of “crying because it’s over,” because no one expected the show with an American football coach heading overseas to coach European football (soccer) to be a staggering success.

Interestingly enough, various networks passed on the idea for an overly positive coach in Jason Sudeikis (former SNL star) bringing a struggling soccer team back to glory, which is hard to believe now with hindsight. For viewers of the Apple TV show, they fell in love with it. The show couldn’t have come at a more perfect time, acting as a beacon of light and positivity during a dark and stressful time in 2020.

And when Ted Lasso teased that season three was their last (right before the season finale of the third season), fans were devastated. Lasso’s AFC Richmond team sent this post out on social media at the time, which made it really seems as though the comfort show had taken a bow:

But what if I told you that wasn’t actually the end?

The news broke earlier today that Ted Lasso would be returning to Apple TV for a fourth season. Jason Sudeikis confirmed the news himself, and even let it be known that the likely premise for the fourth installment is that Lasso would be coaching a women’s team:

Sudeikis actually broke the news on Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast. Posts from Apple quickly followed, confirming that the mood-boosting TV show would be airing new episodes in the near future. Jason Kelce straight up asked if the 49-year-old actor had any news to share about continuing Ted Lasso, and the former SNL cast member happily reported that the fourth season is currently in the works:

“That’s what we’re writing. We’re writing Season 4 now. That’s the official word. Ted’s coaching a women’s team. That’s happening. That’s it.”

There you have it.

Though I’d say that the news of a Ted Lasso continuation is good, but not everyone online is in agreement. In fact, there’s some accusatory messages being thrown around that they “just couldn’t let the show rest,” and that the hit Apple TV show was only returning as a “cash grab.” Some aren’t too excited about the prospect of him switching to a women’s team as well.

Here, I’ll let you see some of the negative response for yourself:

But on the flip side of things, there are some people out there that love Ted Lasso… and I mean really love the show. So when they heard that another season was coming out – when we were all led to believe that the series had already sang its swan song – they were ecstatic to say the least:

What say you?
