NASCAR Cup Series driver Bubba Wallace can’t win for losing.
It seems that anything he says continues to be turned negative ever since the Talladega Superspeedway incident back in 2020. NASCAR’s only black driver found himself in the middle of a firestorm back then when it was reported that a noose had been found in his garage during a race weekend.
Things were so serious that the FBI came in to investigate. They eventually discovered that the noose was actually a garage door pull that had been there for months and had, in fact, been in that garage stall the last time the series was at Talladega (when a different driver was assigned that stall).
Many then accused Wallace of perpetrating a “racial hoax” with the goal of furthering his career. In reality, Bubba wasn’t the one who discovered the “noose,” nor was he the one who reported it. He reportedly never even saw it, was led to believe there was a noose in his garage, and he believed his sources… so it wasn’t his fault, but he still received a lot of criticism.
Since then, the name Bubba Wallace has been divisive – and often politicized.
And he’s not entirely blameless in that. Ahead of the Daytona 500, when it was being speculated that the President could attend, Wallace said that he “couldn’t care less” if Trump was there. Then when the day of the race came and Trump was there, and even gave a speech to the drivers, a camera panned to Bubba Wallace to get his reaction… which was nonexistent.
The Cup Series driver was asked by OutKick about that incident, as well as the politicization that has crept into NASCAR, and Wallace responded by saying it is what it is:
“People are gonna like what they like and not like what they don’t like, right? And who are we to judge somebody because they don’t agree with the things that we like to eat or we like to do or the people we like or don’t like. That’s just how it is.”
Simple enough, right?
Wallace went on to explain how he’s thought about things since the 2020 controversy, and voiced his frustration that everything has to be labeled one way or the other in 2025:
“I have said over the past couple of years… it’s crazy how you can wake up and just say, ‘Oh man it’s a beautiful day and the sky is nice and blue.’ (And the response is) ‘Oh, you’re a Democrat’ or ‘Oh, you’re a Republican.’
It’s just like, ‘Oh sh*t… I’m talking here.’ I think everything is labeled as red or blue and I’m a person that… I just see people how they are and I want to be treated with respect, so I treat them with respect.”

Obviously, those are pretty mundane comments from Bubba Wallace. And honestly, it seems pretty agreeable… at least to me.
But social media is a brutal, unforgiving place, and the replies to that video above are ruthless (and continue to point out the “Noose” story):
Whatever. He’s a chump.

They will not show driver introductions in TV cause they don’t want to show how bad he gets booed. He is terrible

In a way, all of these comments just proved Bubba Wallace’s point…
