The Philadelphia Eagles Have “Enthusiastically Accepted” Donald Trump’s Invitation To The White House

The Super Bowl Champions will be heading to the White House sooner rather than later.

And that’s good news, because there for a while, there was a rumor that the Philadelphia Eagles (who beat the tar out of the Kansas City Chiefs in the “Big Game”) were not interested in visiting with President Trump. That wasn’t exactly out of the realm of possibility, since Philly turned down the opportunity to visit the Commander in Chief after their last Super Bowl win back in 2017 (during Trump’s first term).

That was when the Eagles – along with other teams – had players kneeling during the National Anthem… and Trump suggested that NFL team owners to fire any players who refused to stand for the anthem.

Even with that history, the rumor that the Eagles didn’t want to travel as a team to Washington D.C. to ring in their championship was a little surprising – mainly because President Donald Trump had been voicing his support for the NFL towards the end of the season. He even attended the Super Bowl, and became the first sitting President to ever do so (surprising, right?).

The only argument that made sense (other than Philly wanting to stay out of politics) was that the Eagles could have seen the reports before the “Big Game” of Trump seeming to favor Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs… and the Eagles were holding a grudge. However, after the game, President Trump took a moment to commend the Eagles on the Mac Levin Show:

“The Eagles were really, it was like flawless football, amazing. Even the first play, they called it back. It was a long pass, it was, you know, either a touchdown or going to be a touchdown. They called it back, completed long pass, and they went on to get touchdown after touchdown. They really played great.”

So even if that was a concern, Trump’s comments about them playing great likely buried the hatchet. It was then just a matter of deciphering rumor from report, and it was ESPN’s Adam Schefter that cleared the air towards the end of February that the speculation that the Eagles wouldn’t go to the White House was false. It was actually just a matter of the Philly team not receiving an invitation to do so.

That changed today (or at least recently), as NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark confirmed with a spokesperson from the Eagles that Philadelphia would make a trip to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue:

“An Eagles team spokesperson confirmed the Eagles organization has accepted an invite to visit the White House and they are working on scheduling a date and logistics.”

So there you have it.

The Super Bowl celebration for the Philadelphia Eagles will roll on, and roll up to the White House to visit with the POTUS himself. I’m sure no one will mention that they skipped out on the tradition last time. Actually, if anyone does, I’m sure it’ll be Donald Trump. He’s not afraid to face things head on, as we’ve seen so far in his second term.

Trump is also happy to have championship teams visit the White House. The Eagles will actually be the second champion to visit the President during his second term. He most recently had the Stanley Cup winning Florida Panthers visit the White House in February.

And hey… while you are here, if you want to reminisce on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs getting their you-know-what kicked on the world’s biggest stage, this video will probably suffice:
