Bummer… I was really hoping for President Donald Trump to sign an executive order abolishing Daylight Savings Time.
With all of the other executive orders that he has signed since he took office, I figured the end of “Springing Forward” and “Falling Back” would be a shoo-in. But it looks like I was probably getting ahead of myself, because during a moment with the media earlier this week, President Trump sounded like he wasn’t interested in bringing an end to DST.
People don’t get as worked up when we “Fall Back,” and everyone gets an extra hour of sleep. But coming up this weekend, most of the United States (minus Hawaii and parts of Arizona) is set to “Spring Forward” at 2 a.m. on Sunday morning. Clocks connected to the internet will automatically jump from 1:59 a.m. to 3 a.m., meaning we’ll all lose an hour of sleep.
Because of farming or circadian rhythm or whatever stupid reason.
That being said, the silver lining is that the sun will be setting a little bit later in the day, thus giving us more time to get out and about in the great outdoors. Sure, it makes it a little bit tougher to get going in the mornings, but it all balances itself out. And many think that the United States should change up the whole daylight savings effort by doing away with it altogether (meaning the time we switch to this weekend would be permanent).
A reporter even asked President Trump if it was something he was considering changing with one of his trusty executive orders. The POTUS suggested that though he probably would if it were solely up to his preference, he believes the split in opinion is actually rather even:
“This should be the easiest one of all. It’s a 50/50 issue, and if something is a 50/50 issue, it’s hard to get excited about it. I assume people would like to have more light later, but some people want to have more light earlier because they don’t want to take their kids to school in the dark.
It’s a little bit one way, but it’s very much a 50/50 issue. It’s something I can do, but a lot of people like it one way. A lot of people like it the other way. It’s very even. And usually when I find that’s the case, what else do we have to do?”

Hey Alexa, play Sad Country Music for the next 24 hours.
It doesn’t appear that President Donald Trump will be the one to abolish Daylight Savings Time, and that’s honestly a shame. There were a lot of people in the reply section of this video post disagreeing that it was a 50/50 issue, and calling for Daylight Savings to be done away with:
Ditch Daylight Savings Time. Standard Time is natural time, marked by the sun.

That is depressing. We hoped to finally resolve this.

Lighter longer is the only way.

But probably 100% of people hate the twice yearly time change. Let’s think outside the box, move it 30 minutes (splitting the difference) and never change it again.

The post It Sounds Like President Trump WON’T Abolish Daylight Savings Time: “It’s A 50/50 Issue… Hard To Get Excited About” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.I have lived in Arizona and a six month stay in Hawaii. Neither observe daylight saving s and it’s quite lovely. I never missed it and with all things you adapt.
