Major League Baseball’s “Poop Series” Is No More Thanks To A Score Bug Update By NBC Sports: “A National Tragedy”

A tradition unlike any other was taken from us… just like that.

This is one of those heartbreaking situations where you don’t know what you had until it’s gone. There’s an outside chance that some of you will feel the rare devastation that is mourning the loss of something you didn’t ever know existed. What am I talking about, you might be asking? It’s simple… the “Poop Series.”

Specifically, I’m talking about the scoreboard imaging that appears – or at least used to appear – on broadcasts of the baseball games between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies. When you used to turn on one of their games (if you aren’t within one of the MLB’s asinine blackout regions), you’d see the Pirates “P” logo and the Phillies “P” logo on some portion of your screen.

And when the game first started, both teams would have a score of “0,” which allowed for the… there’s no real good way to say this, but it allowed for the “Poop” to occur:

It was the only series of the year where fans of both teams cheered for their squads to not score runs. That way the hilarious “P O O P” stayed up on the screen for as long as possible. It might seem stupid, but it gave a lot of joy to that small part in each and every one of us that values bathroom humor.

We honestly should have seen this crappy news coming in 2025 when NBC Sports tried to throttle one of the “Poop Games” in the four-game “Poop Series” by exchanging the the Phillies’ “P” logo with their alternate cracked Liberty Bell logo.

Fans were outraged that the “Poop Game” was evidently mettled with last season, and that very well could have been the first indication of what was to come:

And if that made people angry last year, I can’t imagine how they are handling the news of the “Poop Game” being no more in 2o25.

During Spring Training, the Philadelphia Phillies broadcast unveiled their new “score bug” for the season. There’s always a chance that this imaging will just be used for the spring baseball games, but it does seem as though the NBC broadcast has opted to move to three-letter team names in lieu of each respective team’s logo.

Here’s a look at it during a recent Baltimore Orioles-Philadelphia Phillies game:

So what’s the big whoop?

Well… the logos being displayed were a critical part of allowing for the “Poop Games” and “Poop Series.” If NBC moves away from logos altogether, it could mean that we all have experienced our very last baseball game where “P O O P” shined brightly on our screens. We didn’t even get to say a proper goodbye… damn you NBCS Philly!

As you might imagine, baseball fans are not handling the news well:

RIP Poop indeed.

The “Poop Game” and “Poop Series” deserved better, especially considering many Phillies and Pirates fans looked at it as a national holiday. So I say we all band together and get a petition going to reinstate the “Poop Game” and the subsequent “Poop Series.” I’m sure we can get enough people behind the idea, and I’ve got the perfect name for the movement itself.

The Bowel Movement.
