‘The View’ Was Reportedly Told To Dial Back Criticism Directed At President Donald Trump

Tough break for the co-hosts of The View.

As you very well know, nothing can happen in the world without the “world class” commentary of The View stepping in and giving their thoughts on things. The show aired originally aired in 1997 and has covered pop culture news and other noteworthy items ever since. Almost hard to believe it’s gone on that long, am I right?

The members of The View‘s panel, which I used to recognize but now have no idea who they are, consist of Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro. I don’t feel like I have to clarify this, but just in case it’s not common knowledge at this point, the co-hosts pretty much all dislike Donald Trump.

Dislike is probably too nice of a word to use there…

Which makes this report from the New York Post all the more interesting. According to the news outlet, a source close to the panel of co-hosts claims that they’ve experienced “tension in front of the cameras” and “low morale” after they were all asked to dial back criticism directed at Donald Trump. Brian Teta, the executive producer of the show, allegedly told everyone involved that they needed to pump the brakes on giving Trump a hard time just before he took office as the 47th President of the United States.

The order from the executive producer stemmed from a credibility-altering moment in the show that took place last November. In an effort to not be sued, The View read four separate legal notes that all had to do with prior discussions the show hosts had about allegations Donald Trump was facing – among other political conversations that involved Trump’s cabinet nominees.

Below is a video that gathered together most of those moments and the legal notes the various co-hosts were forced to read later on:

So in an effort to avoid situations like that, which caused co-hosts to literally joke that they should potentially change the name of the show from “The View” to “The Legal Note,” the source that spoke to the Post claimed that Goldberg, Behar, Hostin, Haines, Griffin and Navarro were told to try their best to avoid those controversial topics altogether.

And in a shocking twist, when The View has talked about Donald Trump since he took office, they’ve been more open to exploring both sides of the conversation. In a recent episode, Griffin even admitted that she understood a number of Trump’s policies, and attempted to convince Whoopi Goldberg to find her way to a common ground with Americans that support Trump.

If that tells us anything, it’s that source that’s talked to The Post is most likely reliable. However, a different source that is said to be close to The View responded to the reporting that co-hosts were told to walk back Trump criticism with this:

“No one holds back their opinions on ‘The View.’ It’s a place for dynamic conversations from diverse points of view.  That’s what makes it so popular.”

Dynamic conversations? Popular? I don’t know about that…

It certainly sounds like they were at least told something… and it’s hard to blame the show’s executives for doing so. The View is basically a televised book club of uninformed, middle aged women who have no idea what they’re talking ab0ut. And if you can’t do your homework, and talk about Trump without getting the network sued, seems like dialing it back would be wise move, right?

Remember when Joy Behar lamented the Russian invasion of Ukraine because it would ruin her trip to Italy? That’s the quality of the commentary we’re getting on The View…
