Tiger Woods is currently trending across all social media platforms.
Why? Well, the pro golfer was at the White House for a meeting with President Donald Trump that had the future of the game of golf in mind. The POTUS has voiced his desire to bring the PGA Tour and the LIV Tour together, or at the very least allow for some crossover between the two. So Trump met with Tiger, Adam Scott and PGA commissioner Jay Monohan. Saudi Arabia’s PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan was also rumored to be in attendance at the White House.
However, the moment that really stole the show was when President Donald Trump addressed a Black History Month Reception that was happening at the White House, and since Tiger Woods was already there, he apparently invited him to tag along. It made for quite the moment, as you can see in this photo shared by the White House:

The one confusing thing is that President Donald Trump started talking to the group of people attending the Black History Month reception about the game of golf. Why? I’m not sure, but the fact that Tiger was also standing nearby washed away all of the worry… because that’s 82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods standing right there (wearing his Presidential Medal of Freedom). Everybody loves the “Big Cat.”
Trump addressed the crowd, saying:
“This is some crowd. These are the best people Tiger. And we have Adam Scott here also… winner of the Masters, one of the greatest golfers in the world. I’ve always tried to swing just like Adam, it never worked out that way.
I just want to thank Adam and Tiger and the commissioner of the golf. Jay thanks so much for being here. Jay Monohan, head of the PGA. We had some interesting discussions. But let me ask you, is there anybody like our Tiger? He’s the greatest.”
The President then asked Woods if he’d like to say a few words. Initially, the legendary golfer shook his head and said no, but that was before Trump got a “Tiger!” chant going. At that point, Woods had to give the people what they wanted, so he walked up to the podium and said a few words:
“It’s an honor to be here. It’s honor to be here with you Mr. President, and it’s an honor to be here with all of you. Thank you so much.”
Once Tiger wrapped up, President Trump said something to him off the mic, which Woods could be heard responding to with “Thank you, love you too.” Like I said earlier, everyone loves Tiger Woods, and the 15-time major championship winner evidently loves Donald Trump right back. And as you might imagine, the interaction – albeit the rare state of golf press conference at a Black History reception – got a lot of attention (and hate) online.
There were also a lot of jokes that referenced Dave Chappelle’s clever and somewhat controversial “Racial Draft” sketch, which featured the comedian playing Tiger Woods and being “drafted” with the first overall pick.
I’ll just let you watch it for yourself if you’ve never seen it:
That skit aired on Chappelle’s Show in 2004, a number of years after Tiger Woods’ headline-making interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show. It was during that sit-down interview with Oprah that he explained his complicated heritage, with his father being half African American, a quarter Chinese and a quarter American Indian and his mother being half Thai, a quarter Chinese and a quarter White.
Tiger explained that as a kid, he came up with the word “Cablinasian,” which helped to quickly explain he was Caucasian, Black, Indian and Asian. Later on in the interview, he clarified that as an adult, he would consider himself African American and Asian… if he had to label himself as anything. His father, Earl Woods, also added that he raised his son to see himself as “the human race.”
So when Tiger Woods said a few words at the White House’s Black History Month Reception (there’s an outside chance Tiger thought it was a presser about all of the golf stuff), he was probably doing so to respect the part of his heritage that he does represent. But the internet, as it often does, decided to crack some jokes – and made some comparisons to the Dave Chappelle skit:
You can’t tell me that Tiger video not a Chappelle skit

This is all thanks to Dave Chappelle’s skit a long time ago when the Black delegation drafted Tiger in the racial draft

It looks like the Black delegation held on to him all these years. Greatest racial draft class in history. I’m looking forward to the White House giving the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the Wu Tang Clan during its celebration of Asian Americans later this year.

We all wanted him to say, “for shizzle.”
