Buffalo Bills Mail Room Worker ‘Slick Rick’ Gifted A Car By Buffalo Area Car Dealership: “I Can’t Believe It… Why Me?”

Buffalo Bills mailroom worker “Slick Rick” continues to get time in the spotlight… and he deserves every bit of it.

Before Bills quarterback Josh Allen took home the NFL MVP Award, not many people knew the name “Slick Rick.” Now? The dedicated worker within the Buffalo Bills organization has become a household name. And that’s all thanks to the shoutout that he got during Allen’s NFL MVP acceptance speech.

When the NFL Honors ceremony took place back on February 6, Allen beat out fellow nominees Lamar Jackson, Saquon Barkley and Joe Burrow to take home the award for MVP. During his speech, he mentioned a number of people that helped him win the awards, including his coaching staff, the team owners, his teammates, his fiancee… and even Slick Rick in the mailroom:

“It takes everybody, from the equipment staff to the training room to the strength staff to Slick Rick in the mailroom to the cafeteria upstairs, it truly takes everybody to have team success.”

“Slick Rick” was the only staff member to be mentioned by name during the speech, and his life has been a whirlwind ever since he was included in Allen’s speech.

Slick Rick’s actual name is Roderick Morrow, and the Buffalo native has worked in the Buffalo Bills mailroom for 15 years. When he was interviewed by the local news, Morrow explained that he was just as shocked as everybody else to hear his name during Josh’s big moment:

“When I left work Thursday, I said, ‘If Josh doesn’t get MVP I’m gonna cry, because he deserves it. He’s that important to our team.’ So basically when I was watching the awards, he went on stage and everything, I was happy that he had won it.

And it went from joyful to crying because when he mentioned my name I just broke down. I broke down because I’m just an average person. But when he mentioned my name it was like, ‘Oh my God, he just mentioned my name on national television.

I was just crying, I was crying and then I started getting phone calls from friends and I was crying on the phone to them. It’s still like a dream, even though I work here, but I don’t like this publicity. I’m just down to earth.”

And the feel good story gets even better.

Slick Rick’s storybook tale continued today when he was gifted a brand new car by West Herr Auto Group in New York after it became known that he typically took the bus to and from Orchard Park to get to work, and had been doing so for years. So the car dealership gifted him with a Chevy Traverse – free of charge.

One of those situations where Slick Rick finally got what was coming to him…. in a good way.

Like the humble member of the Bills organization stated when his story first broke, he’s not one to enjoy attention from the media. That being said, he continues to be incredibly grateful for all of the kindness that’s being extended to him. Slick Rick once again noted that he truly feels as though he’s living the dream when he talked to WKBW TV:

“I don’t want the publicity. I’m not like that. I can’t believe it. But I guess it’s like, sometimes I go home and I can’t believe I work for the Bills. I just do what I’m supposed to do. It’s like I’m living the dream… and I am. I’m living the dream.”

As to how he’s feeling about his new vehicle, Roderick Morrow is stunned by the generosity. All while he continues to wonder how he got so lucky to be a part of the Bills organization:

“It’s unbelievable. I can’t believe it. I’m the type of person like, ‘Why me?’ That’s how I am.”

Why you, Slick Rick? Because people like YOU deserve to be rewarded.
