Did they spend all the budget on that pregame show?
The Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event in America, with commercials going for up to $8 million for a 30 second advertisement and tickets running into the tens of thousands of dollars.
The city of New Orleans has done a great job putting their best foot forward for the game, and organizers went all out with the Big Easy theme for their pregame ceremonies that featured a national anthem performance from New Orleans native Jon Batiste and a performance of “Go To The Mardi Gras” from Harry Connick Jr. alongside several New Orleans-area marching bands and brass bands.
Suffice it to say, everybody wants to go all out for the Super Bowl and put on the best possible show that they can.
Everybody, apparently, but the graphic designers at FOX.
The network debuted a new scorebug during the game (the scorebug is the graphic on the screen that shows the score, the time remaining, all that stuff), and it’s…well, bad.

The new design is so low-effort that it looks like FOX forgot they needed a scorebug and just opened up Microsoft to throw one together during the pregame show. And the internet is in agreement: They hate it.

I just audibly gasped at this scorebug

Just think of the countless meetings and people Fox had all to settle on this scorebug for the Super Bowl pic.twitter.com/31ZQ6xHB9m

What 6 year old did Fox hire to make the scorebug? Maybe the worst of all-time pic.twitter.com/vEkKwMrx9B

This is the worst scorebug of all time, right?@NFLonFOX you still have time to change this at halftime. #SuperBowl pic.twitter.com/g1Kd2ACBs9

FOX's strategy to have everybody criticize the scorebug instead of Tom Brady is so far paying off.

I mean, if that’s what they’re going for, it worked.
Of course the scorebug isn’t the most important thing in the game: For the Kansas City Chiefs, that would be the referees, who have already drawn criticism for a questionable (to put it mildly) offensive pass interference call on the Philadelphia Eagles during their first drive of the game that ended up resulting in an Eagles punt.

On the other hand, the crowd seemed to be loving the sight of President Donald Trump at the game when he was shown on the big screen during the national anthem.
Trump became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl in person, meeting with the survivors and families of victims of the horrific Bourbon Street terrorist attack on New Year’s Eve ahead of the game.

Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones also sought out President Trump to give him a handshake while he was on the field. But for the pregame ceremonies, the president made his way to his seats alongside New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson.
And when Trump was shown on the screen in the Dome while New Orleans native Jon Batiste performed the national anthem, the crowd erupted in cheers as the president stood saluting the flag:

Pretty cool moment.
The pregame show also featured a tribute to the victims of the terrorist attack, as well as those affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles, Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, and the plane crashes in Washington DC and Philadelphia, with Lady Gaga delivering an emotional performance of “Hold My Hand” on Bourbon Street surrounded by first responders.
FOX has pretty much nailed everything about the broadcast so far – which makes the terrible scorebug all the more obvious.
