Not a Suits fan, eh?
The younger son of King Charles and Princess Diana, Prince Harry made worldwide headlines back in 2020 when he stepped down as a working royal to move to United States with his wife, actress Meghan Markle, and their children Archie and Lillibet.
Harry and the Suits actress settled back in her home state of California, but quickly drew the ire of both the royal family and when they sat down for an interview with Oprah in which the couple criticized Harry’s father, then-Prince Charles, while also making allegations of racism against unnamed royals.
Meghan already seemed to have a strained relationship with the royal family, including her sister-in-law Kate Middleton. In one highly-publicized incident, it was reported that Markle had made Princess Kate cry during a disagreement about flower girl dresses at Harry and Meghan’s wedding. But during their interview with Oprah, Markle claimed that it was actually the opposite that had happened, and that it was Prince William’s wife who had made HER cry before her wedding.
Regardless, it seems that the public in general has supported William and Kate throughout Harry and Meghan’s media blitz, which also included a Netflix documentary and a biography from Harry, with people blaming Markle for alienating her husband from his family and generally considering her insufferable and self-important.
But with President Donald Trump back in office, people were wondering whether the couple might have bigger problems.
Back in 2023, the Heritage Foundation filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security, alleging that the Duke of Sussex had lied on his visa application when he moved to the United States. The lawsuit claims that Harry hadn’t admitted to past drug use, which would have made him ineligible for a visa and subject to deportation back to the United Kingdom.
Obviously immigration has been a major focus of Trump’s second term, and Trump has expressed his displeasure with the exiled royals in the past. Back in 2024, then-candidate Trump said that Harry and Meghan had “betrayed the queen,” calling it unforgivable and blasting the Joe Biden administration for being protecting the couple.
Trump said that he wouldn’t give Harry and Meghan the same treatment that Biden did:
“I wouldn’t protect him. He would be on his own if it were down to me.”
So could Trump actually move to deport the prince back to the UK?
Well during an interview with the New York Post, President Donald Trump threw cold water on any hopes his supporters had that the president would send the ex-royal couple packing from their Montecito, California home:
“I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible…
I think poor Harry is being led around by the nose.”
While Trump isn’t a fan of Harry and Meghan, and apparently thinks that Meghan has her husband “whipped,” he did have high praise for Harry’s brother, Prince William:
“I think William is a great young man.”
Of course the couple aren’t exactly fans of Trump either. Meghan in particular has spoken out against the president in the past, calling him “divisive” and “disgusting,” though the couple did decide to stay out of the 2024 presidential elections despite calls for them to publicly endorse Kamala Harris. (Pretty sure that would have hurt her campaign even more).
Seems like staying out of it was the smart move though, because at least for now, it appears that Prince Harry isn’t on Trump’s radar.
