![Woman With “History Of Drugging Men” Seen Leaving Hotel Room Of Kansas City Reporter Found Dead In New Orleans While Covering The Super Bowl]()
![Adam Manzano Telemundo]()
Terrible...
The Super Bowl is in New Orleans this weekend, and I'm a little biased because I used to live there but there's no better place for a party or a major event than the Big Easy. The vibes are off the chart, the food and drinks are second to none, and the party never stops.
Thousands of people are in New Orleans this weekend for the big game, from fans who just want to be there for the experience to media and folks with the NFL and everybody in between. But unfortunately, with so many people from out of town, there are unfortunately going to be people looking to prey on unsuspecting visitors just trying to have a good time.
Yesterday, it was announced that a Kansas City reporter who was in New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles had passed away.
Adam Manzano, a reporter for Telemundo affiliate KBKC, was reportedly found dead in his hotel room in Kenner, Louisiana, not far from New Orleans. He was reported missing by his co-workers at 4 PM on Wednesday after missing a meeting earlier in the day, and when authorities found him in his hotel room, they realized that his cell phone and the credit card that he had used to check into the hotel were missing. Authorities say there were no obvious signs of trauma to his body.
According to police, when they went back to watch the security footage, they spotted Manzano entering his hotel room around 4:30 AM on Wednesday along with Danette Colbert, a 48-year old woman from nearby Slidell, Louisiana. They weren't sure when Manzano met Colbert, but she left a short time later before returning, and then leaving for the final time around 6 AM.
Colbert was caught after using Manzano's credit cards at several stores in the New Orleans area - and apparently it's not the first time she's been accused of doing the same thing.
A search warrant that was executed at Colbert's home led police to find Manzano's cell phone and credit cards, as well as drugs and a gun that was believed to have been stolen but was unrelated to the reporter's death.
During a press conference, police confirmed that they were familiar with Colbert:
"She was stopped quite frequently in the French Quarter, and she’s known for these fraud schemes...
It's important to note that Ms. Colbert's criminal history does include two instances where she drugged a victim and stole his access device cards."
The woman had been arrested in Las Vegas twice in 2022 after being accused of drugging men in casinos and stealing their pricey watches and cash, though the charges were later dropped. And she also had convictions in New Orleans for targeting tourists on Bourbon Street and using their stolen credit cards, including one time back in 2014 when she approached a man and asked him if he wanted to "hang out" at 4 AM before accompanying him back to his hotel and stealing his Rolex and his credit cards.
Colbert pleaded guilty in 2015 to two counts of theft in that case and was sentenced to five years of probation, but it apparently wasn't enough to stop her because in 2016 she was once again arrested for using a credit card that a man had reported missing after meeting a woman on Bourbon Street.
And then AGAIN in 2018, Colbert was arrested for spending over $3,000 on a man's credit card after he had reportedly lost it after a night at the strip club.
Starting to see a pattern here...
Unfortunately, when the woman plead guilty to those charges, she was sentenced to five years in prison but the judge suspended her sentence and gave her probation instead - and she apparently was back out on the streets for Super Bowl week doing the same things.
Right now Colbert isn't charged with anything related to Manzano's death, and is being held only on charges of fraud and theft, though the police chief said those charges could be upgraded pending the results of toxicology tests.
It's a tragic situation, but really goes to show you just how cautious you need to be while you're out partying. I know I've heard plenty of stories about the same thing happening here in Nashville and pretty much any other big city. And I get it, you're out partying, you want to have a good time, you meet a woman who's ready to party...it happens.
But there are always going to be people waiting and trying to take advantage of people who have let their guard down. And unfortunately, it sounds like this one ended in tragedy.
