![Waste Management “Beer Guys” Get Standing Ovation From Fans At The 16th Hole]()

The Waste Management Phoenix Open provides endless iconic moments.
Also known as “The People’s Open,” the tournament held at TPC Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona officially got started yesterday. If you’ve never checked it out, it’s one of the rowdiest golf tournaments… scratch that, it is THE rowdy golf tournament on the PGA Tour’s schedule. It traditionally starts on the Thursday before the “Big Game” and concludes just before the Super Bowl kicks off on Sunday.
Thus a perfect appetizer on Super Bowl Sunday.
It’s one of my favorite tournaments of the year, just because of the atmosphere and the tournament’s iconic 16th hole – a Par 3 fully enclosed by stadium seating. It also helps that the Waste Management Phoenix Open usually brings out all of the PGA Tour’s best for the first time of the season. That includes the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.
But getting back to number 16 at TPC Scottsdale, it just might be the best thing that professional golf has going for it (besides The Masters, of course). Fans are usually expected to be quiet at golf tournaments, but this fully-enclosed Par 3 goes against the grain, and golf fans absolutely love it.
Stands, suites, and seating surround the unique hole out in the desert, giving it the nickname of “Stadium Hole,” and allowing for a high-energy, party-like atmosphere for the entire four days that the Waste Management occurs. Golfers that come into this hole often pump up the crowd before they hit their tee shots, and a great shot (and sometimes even a hole-in-one) blows the figurative roof off the place.
There’s a lot of etiquette in golf, but on this hole, that all gets thrown out the window, and beer often gets thrown onto the course. If you’ve never seen it in action, here's a shot from a couple of years back that won't ever go out of style:

That's a lot of beer.
Good thing there's plenty of it at the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale. It's estimated that over one million beers are sold at the Waste Management every year, and many of those are sold (and deleted) in the grandstands of number 16. And they get started very early...
The gates to get into the golf tournament open up at 7 a.m. local time every day, and fans literally line up and then sprint to the "Stadium Hole" once they're allowed to do so. You've gotta lock down your spot for the day, am I right?
And around 9 a.m. this morning, the "Beer Guys" made their daily debut and were beautifully met with a standing ovation. The moving beer merchant is a staple of modern sporting events, and perfect for the Waste Management Open crowd that doesn't want to lose their spot on the 16th... yet still interested in downing brewskis.
It's great to see the "Beer Guys" getting the respect and applause they deserve, and if this video doesn't give you a great idea of how fun the Waste Management Phoenix Open is, I don't know what will:
