New Orleans Bar Under Fire After Drag Queen Simulates Assassination On President Donald Trump

New Orleans bar drag queen

Disgusting. All eyes are on New Orleans this week as the city gears up to host Super Bowl LIX between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. And the city has been hard at work cleaning up and getting ready for the biggest football game of the year, including safety improvements in the wake of the horrific terrorist attack on Bourbon Street in the early morning hours of New Year's Day. But while the city was hoping to show off its best image for the world on the NFL's biggest week, one bar in the city has come under fire for a disgusting performance. A video posted by conservative Twitter account Libs of TikTok shows a drag queen performing at a gay bar in New Orleans, dancing in front of video of the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania over the summer. Dancing to "Man Down" by Rihanna, the performer acts out the part of the shooter, taking aim at Trump as he hits the ground in the video. https://twitter.com/libsoftiktok/status/1886182574956982562 Terrible. The location hasn't been confirmed, but the video was reportedly taken at Oz, which is a gay bar located right on Bourbon Street, just blocks from the terrorist attack and shooting that left 14 dead and three police officers shot last month. And the crowd erupted in cheers as the shooting played out on the screen in front of them, with the performer crouched down and pointing towards the screen as if she were firing at Trump. Naturally, most sane people on Twitter immediately criticized the performance, and called out the bar for allowing it to take place: https://twitter.com/Kristine_Froeba/status/1886510351551762675 https://twitter.com/patriotjoeyusa/status/1886229822353080718 https://twitter.com/BookshelfBrando/status/1886227897033339166 https://twitter.com/GimpyHandGuy/status/1886426014940868690 https://twitter.com/_MisterClean/status/1886406296150163711 https://twitter.com/Pbizzlemyshizzl/status/1886273588631646540 It doesn't appear that the bar has commented on the performance, but judging from the reaction of the crowd it doesn't seem like it offended their audience any. Obviously the safety of President Trump has been a big concern following the attempted assassination over the summer, as well as the arrest of an armed man near one of Trump's golf courses who authorities say was also seeking to assassinate the president just months later. I know we're living in polarizing times, and Trump may be the most polarizing political figure of them all (actually I don't think there's any doubt about that). But glorifying an assassination attempt on a now-President of the United States, especially given the horror that took place on Bourbon Street just weeks ago, doesn't seem like it's doing much to help the political discourse. There was even speculation last month surrounding the presidential inauguration that the real reason the ceremony was moved indoors was due to security concerns, though obviously that was never verified and President Trump claims that it was due to abnormally low temperatures in Washington DC. Regardless, it seems like joking about assassinating the president, no matter which side of the aisle you're on, should be something that we can all agree should be off limits.
