Joe Rogan

Joe Rogan clearing the air on his political affiliations. Needless to say, this past week was jam-packed with politics. That's obviously due to President Donald Trump's inauguration, which took place this past Monday. For those that tuned into the proceedings, they probably noticed that it was a real who's-who of a crowd there to support Trump. The likes of Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and Joe Rogan were all there to see the 47th (and 45th) president be sworn in. Mark Zuckerberg was evidently there to keep an eye on something else: https://twitter.com/cb_doge/status/1881393499456864388 But anyways, once the celebration concluded, all of the millionaires and billionaires - including Donald Trump - got back to work. That meant that Joe Rogan flew back to Austin, Texas to continue churning out three-hour-long episodes of his uberly popular podcast The Joe Rogan Experience. And just yesterday, while the comedian and podcaster was talking to Warren Smith (an educator and the founder of Secret Scholars), the topic of his attendance at the inauguration came up. That's when Joe Rogan shared his views on his politics, and the clip of his down-the-middle viewpoints are now circulating online. Here's what he said: "It doesn't make sense to be on a team. I don't consider myself a republican. I don't consider myself a democrat either. I consider myself an American. I'm a human being. There's a lot of things that the democrats believe that I believe too. There's a lot of things that they say that I say, 'That makes a lot of sense to me.' There's a lot of things that the republicans say (that make me say), 'That makes a lot of sense to me too.' The idea that I have to ignore things that make sense to me because its coming from the wrong team is just stupid. These are bad faith arguments where you have to have a conversation and pretend what they're saying is not logical because they're supposed to be your opponent."

Rogan has purposely avoided stating any sort of political affiliation as he's risen in his media career. Prior to 2020, it did seem as though the podcaster leaned more on the Democratic side. He sorta of (but not really) endorsed Bernie Sanders a while back. However, in the past couple of years, Joe Rogan has seemed to move towards the middle of the aisle - and one could make an argument that he helped out the Republican Party by interviewing JD Vance and Donald Trump on his podcast prior to the 2024 Election (he invited Kamala Harris to join the show but she declined). One could also argue that the Democratic Party has moved even further left in recent years, pushing more moderate Democrats into what seems like the Republican side of the spectrum. Folks like Bill Maher have made this argument. Though there have been a lot of comments accusing Joe Rogan of "back pedaling" and "trying to keep both sides happy" with his "I'm an American" political perspective, there's been just as many people share they feel the same way when it comes to politics: "Same. I don’t understand while people feel the need to pick a side to label themselves." "Maybe now that Joe said it, America will figure it out!" "The wildest part is people will hate and disagree with Rogan here even though that’s the normal view in politics across so much of the world." "This is why we need Joe Rogan." "That’s most of America. I believe we are a little of both parties."
